Town Manager
From William F Mix, Chairman Subject LEXPRESS
Transportation Advisory Committee Changes
w pts
At its meeting on July 6 the Transportation Advisory Committee
considered several minor changes to the current LEXPRESS route
system The following recommendations are now being made to take
effect September 6 , 1988 , when the new LEXPRESS map will be
available to residents
I Route #1 - Eliminate Mason Street U-Turn - This turn is
considered too hazardous to continue Small children
play on the street and we should not require a bus to
make a blind turn under these circumstances The
residents of Mason Street can walk to the corner of
Peacock Farm Road without any difficulty
II Route #2 - Add Concord Avenue (from Waltham Street
to Spring Street to Hayden Avenue to Waltham Street
1 Route #3 - Delete right on Spring Street Concord Avenue
and turn on Benjamin Road
Route #2 currently is the shortest LEXPRESS route in
terms of time (approximately 21) while Route #3 is one
of the longest routes (approximately 28 ) This change
will bring the Route #2 up to 26 while the Route #3 will
be reduced to 23
The only service to be lost by this change will be
experienced by those going to Temple Emunah on Piper
Road However the ridership experience is low and it is
within walking distance from the corner of Concord Avenue
and Waltham Street
III Route #8 - Add service on Solomon Pierce Road to Butter-
field Road turning at circle and returning by same route
to Maple Street The residents from this area have asked
for service because many homes are too far for the
children to walk to either Maple or Woburn Street By
measuring we confirmed that they fall just outside the
one-half mile criteria used when the routes were set up
By adding this loop we will be satisfying their needs
while adding only 4 mile and 1 15 to Route #8
