Eliminate Mason St U-turn - Considered too hazardous V eQ Mileage is about 10 of a mile so saving time or miles is not a factor Option A Make left on Mason Street to Peacock Farm Rd which eliminates Watertown Street Advantage Provides safe right hand drop for Mason Street and Peacock Farm Road riders Disadvantage Eliminates Green Lane, Crescent Road area Riders would have to cross busy Watertown St to catch bus on Mason St 0'14 Option B Make left on Peacock Farm Road, eliminating any turn onto Mason Street Advantage Will continue to provide service to Green Lane, Crescent Road area Disadvantage Difficult right hand drop for Mason St riders III Service to Solomon Pierce Road Rt #1 - Leave Depot Sq , make left on Woburn Street, right on Solomon Pierce, right on Maple Street, left on Mass Ave and complete rest of Rt 1 Current route Miles 7 7 Time 25 Addition a„$ b 20 ` ,i New route / 0 2 31 IV September Special - $5 off one month pass - See separate sheet ei c2,1 Sem-,,, . `i ..a i,.. a To Richard J White Date July 7 1988 Town Manager From William F Mix, Chairman Subject LEXPRESS Transportation Advisory Committee Changes w pts At its meeting on July 6 the Transportation Advisory Committee considered several minor changes to the current LEXPRESS route system The following recommendations are now being made to take effect September 6 , 1988 , when the new LEXPRESS map will be available to residents I Route #1 - Eliminate Mason Street U-Turn - This turn is considered too hazardous to continue Small children play on the street and we should not require a bus to make a blind turn under these circumstances The residents of Mason Street can walk to the corner of Peacock Farm Road without any difficulty II Route #2 - Add Concord Avenue (from Waltham Street to Spring Street to Hayden Avenue to Waltham Street 1 Route #3 - Delete right on Spring Street Concord Avenue and turn on Benjamin Road Route #2 currently is the shortest LEXPRESS route in terms of time (approximately 21) while Route #3 is one of the longest routes (approximately 28 ) This change will bring the Route #2 up to 26 while the Route #3 will be reduced to 23 The only service to be lost by this change will be experienced by those going to Temple Emunah on Piper Road However the ridership experience is low and it is within walking distance from the corner of Concord Avenue and Waltham Street III Route #8 - Add service on Solomon Pierce Road to Butter- field Road turning at circle and returning by same route to Maple Street The residents from this area have asked for service because many homes are too far for the children to walk to either Maple or Woburn Street By measuring we confirmed that they fall just outside the one-half mile criteria used when the routes were set up By adding this loop we will be satisfying their needs while adding only 4 mile and 1 15 to Route #8
