1 Lexpress contract. The Town has given us permission to park at the Fire
station but there will be no plug in. That we will have to work on.
We are going out to bid for a three year contract starting January 1, and a six
month contract for July-Dec We should require that a bidder for the 3 year
contract bid on the the six month, but not vice versa. We need a cover letter
explaining our legal limitations to no more than three years We prefer a
bidder bid on both.
Performance bond--We need to get bids from people who are solid but a
performance bond is not easy to get. The Town might not use the bond and it
would cost the Town more.
The contract should clarify that the buses should run if the schools are
open even if there is snow
The Blud Bird is a good vehicle. There are problems with deisels because
they are parked outside and they cost more. Dave Eagle from C & W is willing
to lease one bay in his garage for maintenance of the vehicles
The drivers are the toughest part of the whole operation--they are crucial
to the success of the operation.
Need to find miles per gallon for new vehicles.
2. Budget. Bob Hutchinson is level funding. Selectmen probably also want us
to cut costs. A memo to the Selectmen--We have talked to other Towns and
our best estimate for costs are based on $20-25 per hour However, until we
get bids it is impossible to know the cost. We would rather cut hours than
routes because fewer routes will not cover the Town adequately. Must
explain we will get back to the Selectmen as soon as we get the bids.
3 Fare Collection: We are having trouble with collection by the drivers. The
money is down. Payment of the monthly bills has been withheld since
November What more can we do?
Should we let future contractors keep the fares. We wouldn t have to
worry about collection, counting the money, fireboxes. But what if we cut
hours? What about fare inceases? These are problems. Probably need to
leave present system alone.
