HomeMy WebLinkAbout1985-08-21-TAC-min.pdf TAC MEETING----August 21, 1985 PRESENT Sally Castleman, Joyce Hals, Fred Rosenberg, Jack Eddison, Sara Arnold I LEXPRESS--New Contract -Current contract expires June, 1986 -Current buses have had a lot of problems -Originally we had hoped the current buses could go for 4 years- but now we are not sure of that -Sara reported that a lot of work has been done on the buses, perhaps they could go a fourth year, but we will only know as we get into this winter Perhaps we should include a one-year option in our bid proposal -Fred asked about the Town ordering buses that the contractor would then have the option of buying -We should ask Bill Mix about what type commitment a manufacturer needs when ordering a bus -Sara suggested extending our current contract through Dec , 1986; then going out to bid for a contract that begins Jan 1, 1987 This would give the new contractor 6 months to order and obtain vehicles -Sara will speak to Bob Hutchinson about this concept -A big question will be what vehicles we want to use -We should check with Natick, Gray Line and the MBTA about start- ing problems -We should find out about the number of bids and the prices re- ceived by Natick and Needham II Current Service -We have had a small school bus available all summer--but it will go back to doing school runs in September--Sara is concerned about the potential downtime, especially in the winter -Sara will ask Transcomm "What would it take to have a 6th vehicle in the Lexington area at all times?" III Marketing -Sally recommended we offer Free Rides Sept 4, 5, and 6 -Discussion of the $ Sept pass also followed; Sara reported this was popular -Joyce recommended doing both -It was decided to offer both, if we can get the necessary ap- proval -Sara will get approval from Bob Hutchinson -Sally said we need an insert for the School Newsletters and COA Newsletter that can be added as a filler -- as they have space She will speak to Lili about this IV MBTA-Hartwell -The MBTA did not add Hartwell to its Rt 76 route -Sara and Alan Castaline from the MBTA dhcve the route and found it would take an additional 10 minutes This would throw off the synchronized times of the #76 and #62 going through Lex Ctr -Sara will ask Alan to work out the specifics TAC MEETING----August 21, 1985 -2- _l V Gray Line -Complains that Hudson & MBTA are taking away their passengers -Their ridership has dropped substantially -- they May have to make more cuts in service -We should call David Kravitz and ask how many Lex passengers are really using the Hudson service J
