TAC Meeting -- November 13, 1985
Present Sally Castleman, Bill Mix, Joyce Hals, Webb Sussman,
Lance Neumann, Jack Eddison, Sara Arnold
1 Review of Vehicle Information for new contract
- There are the same basic decisions we have to make as there were
3 years ago van chassis vs truck chassis and gas vs diesel
- It does seem that we can get a lower step now with the truck
chassis
- It was decided to continue with a truck chassis for the same
reasons as before -- durability
- Bill feels we should stay with diesel engines because they were
designed for our type of use
- Sally expressed concern because of all the initial problems we had
- Webb reported that GM has made improvements -- we got a new design
2 years ago
- Sara suggested we allow the contractor to choose since repairs are
so much more difficult, as is finding good mechanics
- It was decided we should find out more about diesel and why MU.ni-
lease wanted Natick to go with diesel
- Perhaps we can find out the maintenance cost of operating gas vs
diesel over 100, 000 miles
- We must decide on other options
A Transit windows? One report says they are $2, 000 more
B More luxurious seat? Decision seemed to be no
C Radios - (AM-FM)? -- questionable
D Booster Heater -- yes
- We should require 6 vehicles
2 Review of Contract for changes
- First hour missed -- we will dock double the cost per vehicle hour
- We should encourage contingency bids, i e "The Town will consider
alternatives to this set of bid specifications "
- Monthly maintenance records shall be submitted
3 Survey -- Passenger Count
- Money on three buses was in the average range; on one bus we made
considerably more, and the driver who was usually driving that bus
has recently been fired (for other reasons)
- Ridership on routes 1, 3 and 5 seems to be quite low Perhaps the
rain affected this, but there is some concern
4 Marketing
- The Chamber has their own Santa on Open House Night in the Center
- Enthusiasm for having the bus at the Christmas Open House dwindled
since we couldn't have Santa
- We will still submit the revised Westport poem for an ad in the
newspaper
- We should still have a poster
- Joyce suggested a poster with take home order forms to order
(please see other side)
