HomeMy WebLinkAbout1984-04-24-TAC-min.pdf Transportation Advisory Committee Minutes April 24, 1984 1 Present Sally Castleman, Elaine Dratch, Don Graham, Sara Arnold 1 Gray Line - The results of the survey were reviewed to answer two questions where are people starting from when they drive & park to take the Gray Line? 1 And how many walk to each of the designated stops? - The Worthen Rd stop has been moved bac; to the area opposite Grace Chanel so there is no immediate need to resolve this problem, but there are 100 cars parking daily for the Gray Line and the Committee did tell the Selectmen they cbuld study alternatises - It was determined that not enough people came from the Waltham side of Lexington to warrent using the Elks lot (the Elks did say they could accomodate about 25 cars,) - Committee mambers should go to the railroad track on either side of Bedford St to see if there is any way of using the tracks for parking - Don suggested that members also look into the feasability of using space near the MDC building at the cloverleaf of Bedford St & Rt 123 - Sara suggested offering the parking lot on Marrett Rd near the Res on an experimental basis If Gray Line made this as there first stop it could be incorporated so as not to disrupt the rest of the route There are recognized problems - most specifically that people will prefer to drive to Worthen Rd than to travel on the bus to East Lexington Sara will check with Gray Line to determine whether they would be willing to do this 2 META. - Sara reported that the T responded to the Selectmen's requests for ser- vice after the opening of Alewife Specifically, the route requests will be reviewed by Cambridge Systematics, LEXPRESS cannot serve Alewife and accessability to The Ride at Alewife is not resolved - Discussion of how to proceed followed It was decided to wait for Cambridge Systematics preliminary report before making further requests Elaine will contact The Ride concerning that issue She will let the Committee know if further action would be desirable 3 Town Meeting - It was decided to use ridership figures for January - April, reflecting usage after the new buses and after the fare increase - There should be a two page handout One page should include the budget the second page should be a fact sheet, including information on Share- A-Ride Elaine will compile the information for the Share- A- Ride, Sara will work on the figures for LEXPRESS - Sally will make a brief report at the TMMA Information Meeting concerning the budget request 4 Pass Fare Prices - The Committee must recommend any changes - Discussion followed It was decided that with the recent fare increase there should be no further increase in ODA fares - To encourage ridership it was decided that pass prices should probably remain stable and that there should be some promotion related to passes such as the one month September special - Sara will determine how many people who bought one month passes) then bought a longer term pass - There will be further discussion when more members are present The meeting was adjourned at 10 p ml
