March 14, 1984
Present Sally Castleman, Elaine Dratch, Webb Sussman, Chuck Stevens, Bill Mix,
Sara Arnold.
1 Marketing
- Chuck reviewed the material that has been used in the past to market
LEXPRESS
- Chuck suggested a quarterly promotion; a reward for riding, prizes from
center merchants plus a grand prize
- Mechanics were discussed It is a burden to ask drivers to hand out
anything We coulduse pass numbers or ticket numbers, or a drop-in box
on each bus
- Other marketing efforts have been sporadic
- We should have a bus in the Patriots Day Parade - perhaps seniors singing
on it.
2 Passenger Count
- Completed today, on Routes 3 & 8, despite weather
- Weather throes off the ridership So it can't be used for a comparison
- It was noticed that passengers paid fares and showed passes voluntarily
- It would appear that ridership is down - we should have made $5,100 in
February and we made only $4,600
3 Procedures for LEXPRESS
- Spare bus is being parked in the Meriam Street lot Elaine felt this was
inappropriate because it takes up a spot Sara will ask Wally about alter-
natives Having a bus read ly available is a major asset to the service
- Sally questioned how we improve procedures when there are problems What
are the steps that should be taken There were no immediate suggested
solutions
- Sara raised the question of how much Transcomm should be penalized for not
meeting the bus specs Differences of opinion were expressed;ultimately
Bob Hutchinson will make the decision
- Sara will request maintenance reports from Transcomm
4 Commuter Bus Parking
- Bill suggested three locations
1 Lincoln St field - on the left where gravel can be poured
2 State owned land near Hastings school
3 Worthen Rd next to Hayden Field
- Other discussion involved dispersing of cars on Worthen Rd , creating two
stops, and the parking area near the Res on Marrett Rd
- It was decided to send a memo to the Board of Selectmen, stressing that a
solution needs to be found The committee will mention
all the spots raised at this meeting without addressing their pros and cons-
then ask for guidance as to how to proceed The committee will express their
willingness to help explore the possibilities
