HomeMy WebLinkAbout1983-09-14-TAC-min.pdf Minutes Transportation Advisory Committee Meeting September 14, 1983 Present Sally Castleman, Elaine Dratch, Bill Mix, Webb Sussman, Sara Arnold 1 Laminator - Sara reported that the laminator broke down this week She was able to purchase and replace gears but it probably should be refurbished for $50 - Purchasing a new laminator would cost $306 - Rental is $68 00 per month - Conclusion is to buy a new machine if the budget allows it Sara will look into what has become of the school laminators and costs of other brands first 2 Selling Passes at Back-to-School Nights and COA - We are scheduled to sell passes at the COA on October 6, 9 00 - 9 30 and 11 00 - 1 30 to be covered by Sara and Sally - Elementary Back-to-School Nights should be covered Volunteers are Sally, Elaine, Webb, Bill , Sara and hopefully Joyce Hals Sara will set these up with the schools and put together the material needed 3 Sally announced that the MBTA may be subsidizing LEXPRESS again at $5 ,000 per month She reviewed the steps that were taken to have this funding reinstated Elaine brought up the question of the MBTA extending THEM, Inc services to Lexington She will keep the Committee informed if she hears more than just rumors The Selectmen will be informed when appropriate 4 Jim Crain will be leaving as the Transportation Advisory Committee representative The Committee would like to have a small party for him at one of their meetings 5 New buses - No date is known yet - Ceremony should be organized Invite Salvucci , someone from the MBTA, the Selectmen , Steve Doran Dick Kraus, Silver Haired Legislators, John Pearson(Logo designer) , someone from Transcomm, Town meeting members (Sara will look into bulk mailing rates) Speakers Jim Crain, Sally, Steve Doran , Dick Kraus Media Lexington Minuteman, Lexington Cable Events Ribbon Cutting Free rides at 10 from the Depot Balloons Display buses and ShareaA-Ride van Cake - drinks - uncertain 6 Pass Refund Request - A new resident bought a year pass for her child She didn' t realize he would never use it She received no information that the pass was non- refundable Minutes Transportation Advisory Committee Meeting September 14, 1983 Page 2 - Recommendation She write the details of her request and we refund $30 Thus she will have paid $25 for a three month pass - Sara will talk to Dick Perry about the mechanics of the refund 7 Ridership - Statistics show a drop in ridershin - down 23% conipn July 82 and July 83, pass sales are also down - Reasons Drop in riders Poor Collection byte drivers Hot summer Late school start - Recommendations Build ridership with all the publicity previously planned Covalucci should be informed that drivers have been observed not collecting - to serve as warning to not pay Transcomm if violations continue Need regular riders to observe collection and make regular reports Discussion of Sara helping train drivers - decision, no 8 Next Meeting Tentatively, Monday, October 17
