Minutes - November 2 , 1982
Present Sally Castleman, Elaine Dratch, Bill Mix, Sara Arnold, Don Graham, Joyce Hals,
Jim Crain, Lance Newman
1 ) Sally's draft of the Lease/Purchase Study was reviewed The Committee felt
that the draft did not make a strong case for or against Town lease or
purchase of vehicles, but that this accurately reflected the Committee' s
position that the study results were inconclusive It was agreed to go out
to bid for Lexpress and ask potential operators to bid on the basis of the
Town providing vehicles and on the contractor providing vehicles
2) The Committee will send a letter to the Board of Selectmen reiterating the
Committe' s position that Depot Square is the preferred location for the 1
Lexpress stop in the Center However, the Committee will confer with both
the Police and Public Works Departments to see if there have been any problems
with the new posts
3) The Committee will prepare a Lexpress budget based on the guidelines developed
by the Town Manager However, the Committee will also prepare a budget
request reflecting what the Committee feels is necessary to maintain an
adequate Lexpress service level
4) The Town has received a request to consider relocating the MBTA bus stop across
from the Post Office The Committee is not in favor of moving the stop since
it is difficult to find a suitable alternative location
5) Gray Line has requested permission to put up signs at all of their stops
There were mixed feelings about the request While it would be nice to
advertise the service, the Town received a lot of complaints when the MBTA
put up new signs at all their stops recently It was decided to advise against
putting up the signs
6) The Committee has received a request from a Bedford resident for assistance
in finding a suitable parking location for Bedford residents wishing to take
the Gray Line service from Lexington The Committee' s primary concern is
that residential areas not be adversely affected by out of town parkers
While sympathetic to the Bedford resident' s problem, the Committee is not
inclined to get actively involved in a search for parking sites
