HomeMy WebLinkAbout1982-11-02-TAC-min.pdf TRANSPORTATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE Minutes - November 2 , 1982 Present Sally Castleman, Elaine Dratch, Bill Mix, Sara Arnold, Don Graham, Joyce Hals, Jim Crain, Lance Newman 1 ) Sally's draft of the Lease/Purchase Study was reviewed The Committee felt that the draft did not make a strong case for or against Town lease or purchase of vehicles, but that this accurately reflected the Committee' s position that the study results were inconclusive It was agreed to go out to bid for Lexpress and ask potential operators to bid on the basis of the Town providing vehicles and on the contractor providing vehicles 2) The Committee will send a letter to the Board of Selectmen reiterating the Committe' s position that Depot Square is the preferred location for the 1 Lexpress stop in the Center However, the Committee will confer with both the Police and Public Works Departments to see if there have been any problems with the new posts 3) The Committee will prepare a Lexpress budget based on the guidelines developed by the Town Manager However, the Committee will also prepare a budget request reflecting what the Committee feels is necessary to maintain an adequate Lexpress service level 4) The Town has received a request to consider relocating the MBTA bus stop across from the Post Office The Committee is not in favor of moving the stop since it is difficult to find a suitable alternative location 5) Gray Line has requested permission to put up signs at all of their stops There were mixed feelings about the request While it would be nice to advertise the service, the Town received a lot of complaints when the MBTA put up new signs at all their stops recently It was decided to advise against putting up the signs 6) The Committee has received a request from a Bedford resident for assistance in finding a suitable parking location for Bedford residents wishing to take the Gray Line service from Lexington The Committee' s primary concern is that residential areas not be adversely affected by out of town parkers While sympathetic to the Bedford resident' s problem, the Committee is not inclined to get actively involved in a search for parking sites
