HomeMy WebLinkAbout1982-08-17-TAC-min.pdf TRANSPORTATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE August 17, 1982 Present Sally Castleman, Joyce Hals, Lance Neumann, Donald Graham, Sara Arnold and 'Bill Mix 1 Gray Lines Schedule The proposed fall schedule was discussed, with special emphasis on the "load and go" concept suggested by Gray Lines for the evening runs at 4 45, 5 00 and 5 15 from Government Center The committee agreed that this should eliminate the standee problem on those runs for passengers boarding at Government Center, but those boarding at Haymarket would be standees Joyce Hals commented that she would like to see one loading point in this area rather than the two presently being utilized It was agreed that the "load and go" proposal should be tried on an experimental basis, and be reviewed in November prior to establishing a winter schedule The following restrictions were placed on the three "load and go" runs Run No 3 scheduled departure at 4 45 would not leave prior to 4 40 or after 4 55 Run No 4 scheduled departure at 5 00 would not leave prior to 4 55 or after 5 10 Run No 5 scheduled departure at 5 15 would not leave prior to 5 15 or after 5 25 These runs are to stop at Haymarket , and boarding passengers will have to ride as standees if seats are not available The schedule to be posted by Gray Line is to note this information Reviewing the proposed morning runs , the only changes were those of runs No 4 and No 5 Run No 4 should make the Mass Ave stops leaving Pleasant Street at approximately 7 30 The No 5 run would originate at Worthen Road at 7 45 Scheduling of Bedford stops were left to the discretion of Gray Lines provided Lexington riders will not he inconvenienced The Gray Line request to sell books of 22 rides for $44 00 in lieu of 20 rides for $40 00 was approved 2 Map Ads Sally Castleman reported that there are three potential advertisers and that two spaces remain open The Share-A-Ride ad will be printed in space not requested by an advertiser All copy approvals are to be returned to the printer no later than 8/27 Distribution of the maps will be made not later than the week of 9/20 3 Contingency Plans for TMC Whereas the TAC has a vital interest in the status of the Mass Ave garage leased by TMC, Sara Arnold agreed to check on the progress of its sale and the resultant homelessness of the Lexpress vehicles Copies of the current contract between TMC and the Town will be sent to each committee member No other plans were made regarding any possible interuption in Lexpress service 4 Hudson Bus Lines Sally Castleman briefed the committee on the status of the proposed Logan Airport bus service Hudson seeks to offer No action is required by the committee Final approval for the start of service lies with the MBTA A hearing was held 8/13 'and Hudson expects to be advised in about a month Service to Logan, with an intermediate stop at Haymarket Square, not conflicting with Gray Lines schedules , would run hourly to Logan between 5 30 A M and 9 30 P.M Return service would run between 7 00 A M to 11 00 P M Fares are $5 00 to Logan and $3 00 to Haymarket A 30 passenger bus will operate from Bedford, serving Lexington and Arlington Stops will be at the present MBTA stops 5 Bikeway Hearing 9/22 Prior to taking a position on the bikeway, TAC will invite a member of the Bikeway Committee to attend the next TAC meeting 6 Lease/Purchase It was agreed to defer discussion of this matter until the next meeting In the interim, requests for bids to operate owned or leased buses will be sent to four operators Also, Bill Mix is to contact the most favorable leasing companies as determined by Chris Keefe 's report to determine what lead time is necessary before operations can begin 7 Next Meeting The next meeting is scheduled for September 7, 1982
