August 2017 Report
The fall program brochure is currently at the printer and should be delivered to
residents during the week of August 21' Keeley Pavlik, a summer intern, spent the majority of
her time this summer reformatting the entire brochure The end result is a brochure that has a
new, fresh feel to it, so we would like to thank Keeley for all of her efforts The brochure is
currently posted online and registration will begin on Monday, August 28th
Look for over 20 new programs!!

• Take our survey! There is a survey on page 4 of the fall brochure-this is a tool to receive
feedback on the new design Please check it out and let us know what you think

• Zachary Robbins and Ferenc Fazekas from SolAware Technologies informed our
department that they encountered some unforeseen engineering challenges with their
device that has set their test date back. The Recreation Committee approved
SolAware's proposal to test its UV index system at Lincoln Park this summer at its June
meeting SolAware is now tentatively scheduled to test the system at Lincoln Park
during the weekend of September 9th-10th This will work well as this is the beginning
weekend of the fall season for the Lexington United Soccer Club (LUSC) as well as our
NFL FLAG Football League
Budget & Capital
• Adams Field near completion The bid for accessible pathways is out and expect work to
begin in October
• The FY19 Operating Budget and the 5 year Capital Budget planning process is underway
• A walk through of the Center Recreation Football Field took place with representative
from the Lexington Cricket League A suitable location continues to be reviewed and
identified in order to keep the spaces safe and multi-use for all current user groups The
main season for Cricket is July, being competition with Spring and fall as training
seasons

• Sunday,September 10th The ribbon cutting/grand opening ceremony for the lights at Lincoln#2 is
tentatively scheduled to begin at 6.30pm
• Saturday, October 14th The CEL(Community Endowment of Lexington)first aid/cpr/aed class will be
held This is an outcome of the CCPAC.

The Department promotes participation by all Lexington residents in safe,accessible and well-maintained facilities.

Programs & Services
Summer
• The day camps, sports clinics, and tennis programs have all gone very well this
summer This is a testament to the hard work, effort, and dedication of our staff
and vendors All of the summer programs that the department staffs will end this
week and we will offer a few vendor programs next week, August 21St-25th
• District Attorney Marian Ryan gave a presentation on summer safety at our Discover
the Fun day camp on Thursday, August 10th
• The Tennis Booth will close for the season on Sunday, August 20th
• Over the summer (June 26th—August 25th) the Community Center offered 33
half/full day camp options which included computer classes, martial arts, science,
chess, dance, film making, and much more with a total of 330 participants
Fall
• Our NFL FLAG Football League will be kicking off its 10th season on Sunday,
September 10th For the upcoming season, there are 32 teams with 383 participants
registered to play, along with approximately 80 parent volunteer coaches and
approximately 30 high school-age referees By comparison, there was a total of 4
teams and 44 players during the first season back in 2008, so the growth and success
of this program has been tremendous over the years
Facilities
Fields. Parks. & Playgrounds
• While the bleachers were being dismantled at the Center Track on August 1st, some
damage occurred to Lane #1 Staff have been in contact with track repair companies
in recent weeks and this section of the track is scheduled to be repaired before the
end of the month as contractor schedules allow
Aauatics
• While the weather has presented some challenges, the season at the Town Pool and
Old Reservoir has gone well so far Swim lessons will end this Friday, August 18th
and the regular season will end on Sunday, August 20th The Old Reservoir will close
for the season on August 20th and the Town Pool will remain open through Labor
Day, September 4th The aquatics staff has done a great job throughout the summer
• Town Pool Renovations scheduled to begin on September 5th
Community Center
• Major tree work, pruning, removal of deadwood, weeding and edging took place
over the past two weeks to address issues of safety, line of sight and aesthetics
• Two addition credit card terminals have been added to the customer service area
improve the registration and customer experience and continue to improve our
efficiencies
• We have been giving out membership cards to all the camps/clinics each week so we
can boost the sign in numbers for youth in the building, and so they get used to
signing in
Golf
• Play continues to be steady with the mild temperature and dry weather
