THE FOLLOWING SEQUENCE IS PROVIDED FOR GUIDANCE TO THE CONTRACTOR FOR COMPLYING WITH
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS.
THE CONTRACTOR REMAINS RESPONSIBILE FOR MEANS AND METHODS OF CONSTRUCTION, AND CAN
REASONABLY MODIFY THIS SEQUENCE, CONSISTENT WITH ALL APPLICABLE PERMIT REQUIREMENTS,
1. CULVERT REPLACEMENT AND ADJACENT STREAMBANK STABILIZATION WORK SHALL COMMENCE AFTER JULY 1ST AND BE COMPLETED
12. EXCAVATE THE BIKEWAY TO PREPARE FOR PLACEMENT OF THE NEW CULVERT, REMOVE THE EXISTING CULVERT AND STONE WINGWALLS,
PRIOR TO OCTOBER 1ST.
AND COMPLETE EXCAVATION AND FOUNDATION PREPARATION FOR THE NEW CULVERT. THE AREA OF DISTURBANCE SHALL BE KEPT TO A
MINIMUM.
2. PLACEMENT OF TEMPORARY TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES TO CLOSE DOWN THE USE OF THE BIKEWAY. TEMPORARY TRAFFIC SIGNAGE
SHALL BE USED TO SET UP A BIKEWAY DETOUR.
13. STARTING AT THE END AS DIRECTED BY THE SHOP DRAWINGS, INSTALL THE CULVERT CUTOFF WALLS AND WINGWALL FOOTINGS.
3. PERFORM BIKEWAY ALTERATIONS SUFFICIENT FOR EQUIPMENT ACCESS FOR CULVERT RECONSTRUCTION.
14. INSTALL THE NEW CULVERT SECTIONS AND WINGWALLS ON TOP OF CUTOFF WALLS, FOOTINGS, AND PREPARED BASE.
4. TEMPORARY EROSION CONTROLS, COFFER DAMS, AND BYPASS PIPING (OR APPROVED ALTERNATIVE BYPASS) SHALL BE USED TO
15. IT IS AT THE CONTRACTORS DISCRETION WHETHER TO FILL CULVERT SECTIONS WITH DESIGNED STREAM BED MATERIAL AS WORK
MAINTAIN NATURAL FLOWS IN THE STREAMBED IMMEDIATELY UPSTREAM AND DOWNSTREAM OF THE WORK AREA, AND TO PREVENT
PROGRESSES OR AS A FINAL STEP. AS NOTED ON THE DETAIL SHEETS: THE USE OF A SEPARATE TOP SLAB OPTION OR ACCESS
SEDIMENT DISCHARGE TO STREAM, IN ACCORDANCE WITH PERMIT CONDITIONS.
MANHOLES OPTION IS AT THE DISCRETION OF THE CONTRACTOR. A CONTINUOUS BOX CULVERT, TOP SLAB OPTION, OR SEALABLE ACCESS
MANHOLES, MEETING ALL REQUIRED SPECIFICATIONS MAY BE USED UPON ACCEPTANCE BY THE ENGINEER.
5. INSTALL TEMPORARY BYPASS PIPING, OUTSIDE THE LIMITS. OF NEW CULVERT STRUCTURE, IN THE GENERAL LOCATION SHOWN IN THE
EXISTING EDGE OF PAVEMENT
PLAN VIEW, AS REQUIRED BY FIELD CONDITIONS. INSTALLATION OF THE TEMPORARY BYPASS PIPING SHALL BEGIN FROM THE DOWNSTREAM
16. GRADE STREAMBED MATERIAL WITHIN BOX CULVERT AS DEPICTED ON PLANS. THE FULL CONSTRUCTION OF THE DESIGNED STREAMBED
END. DO NOT ACTIVATE BYPASS PIPING UNTIL BIKEWAY DETOUR PREPARATIONS ARE COMPLETE.
MATERIAL AND STREAMBANKS WITHIN THE CULVERT MUST BE COMPLETED AS SPECIFIED ON THE PLANS.
6. A TEMPORARY COFFERDAM SHALL BE INSTALLED AROUND THE UPSTREAM END OF THE TEMPORARY BYPASS PIPING PRIOR TO PUTTING
OPTIONAL CONSTRUCTION METHOD: INSTALL THE TOP SLAB PORTION OF THE BOX CULVERT OR SEALABLE ACCESS MANHOLE COVERS AND
HEADWALLS AND SECURE AS SPECIFIED BY THE MANUFACTURER.
THE TEMPORARY BYPASS PIPING INTO USE.
PROPOSED EDGE OF PAVEMENT
17. COMPLETE BACKFILLING OF CULVERT STRUCTURE.
7. THE UPSTREAM WATER LEVEL OF THE STREAM SHALL BE GRADUALLY LOWERED THROUGH THE USE OF TEMPORARY BYPASS PIPING,
EXISTNG DRAIN UNE
PUMPING, OR OTHER APPROVED MEANS, AS TO AVOID LARGE VOLUMES OF WATER AND EROSIVE VELOCITIES TO DISCHARGE DOWNSTREAM.
18. INSTALL COMPOST SOCK SLOPE STABILIZATION ALONG ALL AREAS OF DISTURBED STREAMBANK, SHAPE STREAMBANKS TO BLEND WITH
BED MATERIAL IN THE CULVERT.
8. THE UPSTREAM COFFERDAM SHALL BE INSTALLED TO CONTROL SURFACE WATER ACTION AND MAINTAIN ANY NECESSARY WORK IN THE
EXISTNG UTILITY POLE
DRY.
19. REMOVE TEMPORARY BYPASS PIPING, STABILIZE AND REESTABLISH STREAM BANK WHERE TEMPORARY PIPE WAS IN USE.
9. CULVERT STRUCTURE PLACEMENT SHALL BE CONDUCTED DURING LOW FLOW CONDITIONS AT A TIME WHEN NO RAIN IS PREDICTED FOR
20. REMAINING COFFER DAM SHALL BE REMOVED IN CONJUNCTION WITH THESE ACTIVITIES. IN ALL CASES OF COFFERDAM REMOVAL THE
THE ANTICIPATED TIME REQUIRED FOR INSTALLATION.
RELEASE OF FLOWS SHALL BE GRADUAL AS TO AVOID LARGE VOLUMES OF WATER AND EROSIVE VELOCITIES TO DISCHARGE DOWNSTREAM.
10. ADJUST EROSION CONTROLS AS REQUIRED TO PROTECT STREAM AND WETLANDS FROM SEDIMENT RESULTING FROM CONSTRUCTION
21. CONSTRUCT REMAINING BIKEWAY IMPROVEMENTS AND REINSTALL WOODEN GUARDRAIL.
ACTIVITY.
EXISTING STONE WALL
XRE -'a 1
22. REMOVE ALL TEMPORARY TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES AND OPEN ROADWAY TO TRAFFIC.
11. INSTALL DEWATERING .EQUIPMENT IN PREPARATION FOR COMPLETE EXCAVATION. A bEWATERING FRAC TANK WITH
SEDIMENTATION FILTRATION BAG SHALL BE USED PRIOR TO DISCHARGE.
23. REMOVE REMAINING EROSION CONTROLS WHEN ALL SURFACES HAVE BEEN STABILIZED.
