Wayne Brooks reported as — Accomplished 1 Repaired crack in ramp next to Steve's ice cream 2. Redrew cross walk lines near fire station at 55 Bedford St. 3 Removed barrels preventing wheelchair access to buttons activating traffic light at Ace Hardware. 4 Removed snow banks also preventing access to same traffic lights. Waiting to be accomplished (dating from 1996) 1 25 Depot Square — curb cut too steep 2. South side Depot Square—curb cut too steep 3 Sign in front of Yangtse River is at the same place as curb cut; sign needs to be left as is and curb cut moved. 4 Curb cut needed on east side of Meriam St.just after#9 5 177 Bedford St. — curb on one side of the cross walk but not on the other The Committee agreed to send thanks to Mr Brooks. S 2 Recreation Department fee policy for people with disabilities Barbara Barrows suggested that since the Recreation Department offered a reduced fee to the elderly, it should do so as well for people with disabilities. Karen Simmons stated that the Recreation Department is 100% supported by user fees. It did offer scholarships to people who could not afford to use the facilities. Barbara replied that people with disabilities should not have to pass a means test. The matter will be discussed with the Recreation Department board on March 28. Patrick Maguire — plans for recreational fields High School— field, backstop and fence replacements; track to be surfaced with rubber, all-weather to last 12 — 15 years; tennis courts to be resurfaced; new path to permit accessibility going from track to baseball field. Existing bleachers with no ramp, aisles, or handrails to be replaced with new bleachers with steps fully enclosed; wheelchair accommodations; ramp to press block; will seat 2,000 spectators (down from the current 2,500 seating). Aisles will have handrails. Clarke: tennis courts and backstops to be replaced; gravel drainage system to be installed for field. Diamond: field will be aerified; infield and backstops will be replaced; field entrance will be made handicap accessible. Town Meeting has approved 1 7 million dollars for renovations. Mr Maguire will submit response to ADA issues to the Enablement Committee in writing. Next meeting Thursday, April 5 Margaret Donovan of the Library will present plans for assertive technologies.
