Wednesday August 23, 1995 at 3:00 p.m. in the Senior Center

1. Minutes 7/19/95
Approved.
2. Hearing accessibility Cary Hall update
See letter from Renee Cochin dated August 27 advising use of expert to review system. Committee
agrees that such an expedient should await completion of further testing with use of questionnaire and
Committee members escorting testers to Cary Hall events.
3 Hearing accessibility Town Manager's office (TTY)
Steve Baran has obtained bids and will proceed with requisition for TTY to be installed in Town
Clerk's office (more centrally accessible).
4 Hearing accessibility school system
Steve Baran will get in touch with Pat Kane to remind her about her agreement to investigate school
buildings' hearing accessibility
5. Letter to Minuteman about ADA issues facing the Town- update
Emily Silberberg is preparing letter having received suggestions from Gary Strong and Steve Baran.
6. Title II Transition Plan (Emily Silberberg, Bob Harris and Steve Baran)
Emily Silberberg to tour Town Office Building with Fred Sweet of DPW on 8/29. Steve Baran will
contact Steve Hurley of the Chamber of Commerce about their plans to renovate bathrooms and arrange
meeting with Bob Harris and Emily Silberberg.
7 Lexington Eye Associates, 99 Waltham St.
Their attorney contacted Steve Baran to explain that the cost of extensive renovations to make front
entrance accessible made it unreasonable to proceed. The doctors are available to see patients at
alternative locations in Concord and Arlington.
8. Senior Center door control
Steve Baran has obtained three bids, will meet with director of Adult Day program at Senior Center.
9 Lexington Ridge
AAB has required Lexington Ridge to install ramp to main clubhouse/administration building but not to
make apartments handicapped accessible in advance of being rented to persons with disabilities.

10. Lowell St. and Woburn St.
Steve Baran heard from Mass. Highway Dept. that basic modifications to crossing were again being
postponed. He has written to Representative Kaufman asking him to intervene. Crossing is very risky
11. Lexington Arts & Crafts Society, 130 Waltham St.
Steve Baran has written to representatives asking for update.
12. Trinity Pharmacy, 166 Bedford St.
Steve Baran has written to representatives after having received complaint from Eliot Community
Human Services clubhouse.
13. Bruegger's Bagel Bakery, 413 Waltham St.
There are no handicapped spaces in parking lot; customers tend to park in front o f ramp. Emily and
Eric Silberberg will provide sketch showing how to make parking lot accessible, and Enablement
Committee will send letter.
14. Poster Boards
Christine Chase reported that poster boards affirming the message of promoting accessibility for people
with disabilities are to be widely disseminated throughout the churches and synagogues. The Committee
applauded her for her success.

Next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday 9/20.
