HomeMy WebLinkAbout1995-04-19-EC-min.pdf ( ENABLEMENT COMMITTEE MINUTES Wednesday, April 19, 1995 at 3 00 p.m. in the Senior Center Present Robert Harris, Chairman, Christine Chase, Martin Quinlan, Rick Safford, Emily Silberberg, Gary Strong; Steve Baran (recorder) Absent Joanne Fray, Cari Luterman 1 Cary Library/East Lexington Branch Library (Carol Mahoney) Postponed to next mooting 2 Regional ADA meeting, Somerville (Steve Baran) Regional group making progress in setting up a structure with regular meetings; they drafted a letter to the Registry of Motor Vehicles on the subject of cutting down on the abuse of placards for people with disabilities Their next meeting will be in Medford on Tuesday, May 16 at 1 p.m. 3 Title II ADA Accessibility (Emily Silberberg, Steve Baran) Steve and Emily will be cross referencing intern study findings with priorities prepared by Enablement Committee subcommittee A meeting has ( been scheduled with Julia Novak, Assistant Town Manager, for the purpose of understanding the process for getting the Town to comply with Title II and make appropriations to that end 4 Lexington Ridge (Emily Silberberg) Emily reported on considerable progress made through a hearing process with the Mass Architectural Access Board 5 Cary Hall hearing accessibility (Steve Baran) Rick reported that Cary Hall will soon be hearing accessible for Town Meeting Christine will draw up statement introducing the system to be read by Moderator 6 Council on Aging hearing accessibility/renovations/self help group for hard of hearing limited/low vision support group (Christine Chase and Karen Santucci) A caption decoder was installed by Christine' s husband in the Senior Center Christine is looking into a site for a support group for people with limited hearing Karen Santucci, COA Social Worker, reported on her plans to begin a support group for people with low vision 7 Other a Sunny Knoll possible fire hazard - Christine follow up b CCA rest rooms Bob did inspection
