Hearing accessibility - Cary Halt Hearing accessibility was tested on October 1 Three volunteers who were hard of hearing indicated receivers brought in sound of good quality Positive feedback from two others who had used receivers successfully on other occasions. Leo McSweeney is contacting Renee Cochin to advise her of outcome and invite her to be in touch with Enablement Committee if she continues to have concerns. Hearing accessibility - Town Manager's office and Selectmen's Meeting Room Steve Baran has obtained bids and will proceed with requisition for TTY to be installed in Town Clerk's office (more centrally accessible) He will advance plan prepared by Rick Safford for making the Selectmen's Meeting Room accessible for the hearing impaired. Hearing accessibility - school system Steve Baran will get in touch with Pat Kane to remind her about her agreement to investigate school buildings hearing accessibility Steve will inquire if Joe Dini answered letter from Renee Cochin. Letter to Minuteman about ADA issues facing the Town - update Emily Silberberg has sent in completed Minute-man letter to Minuteman. Title H Transition Plan Emily Silberberg, Nancy Schock Martin Quinlan and Peter Chalpin toured the Town Office Building with Fred Sweet of DPW and Peter Chalpin of the Engineering Department on 8/29 Emily expects to proceed as consultant to the Town to update Title II transition plan. Recommendations on Town Office Building to be incorporated into larger plan. Senior Center door control Steve Baran, at the request of Council on Aging staff will contact bidders to ask them about their specific experiences in Senior Centers. Enablement Committee Problem-Oriented Record Updated 10/20/95 Page 2 Lowell St. and Woburn St. Jacqui Weinstock, aide to Rep Kaufman, took action to press getting work done through Mass. Highway but obtained no definitive result. Lexington Arts & Crafts Society, 130 Waltham St. Steve Baran wrote to Gerald Christian, new President, at the suggestion of Christine Chase on September 6. Mr Christian has not responded to date. Steve will look for other contacts who might be helpful in getting them to respond. Trinity Pharmacy, 166 Bedford St. and neighboring establishments Steve Baran wrote to MacKay Nominee Trust on August 22 at the prompting of Eliot Community Human Services. There has been no response to date. Eliot wrote on August 25 complaining that the Town was not being helpful. Steve contacted Eliot to ask them if they would like to meet with property owners and is awaiting reply The Committee will attempt to meet with owners last week in October Donald Mackay is property owner - MacKay nominee trust, 508-682-3346. Bagel shop will be opened with handicap provisions - Robert Jones, 3 Jocelyn Drive, Westwood 00186. No phone. Bruegger's Bagel Bakery, 413 Waltham St. Steve has given Emily name of owner of property Emily will pursue. Stone Meadow Golf, 675 Waltham St. Emily and Steve visited facility and found owner's representative quite cooperative. They discussed ramping, door handles and parking spaces. Emily will go back to check. King's Mobil, 396 Waltham St. Signage needs to be changed prohibiting animals inside the station to making an exception for guide dogs. Emily will contact Health Department. Steve's Ice Cream, 1749 Mass. Ave. Strollers get trapped in gap between ramp and street. Steve Baran will follow up. Volunteers may be forthcoming resulting from Minute-man letter or through Senior Volunteer Corps. Locke Village Walkway Rick Safford is pursuing this. Visitors' Center bathrooms Plans for renovating rest rooms and making them handicap accessible (door, sinks, toilets, ramp rails) and accessible from the outside reviewed with Steve Hurley, President of the Chamber of Commerce who is overseeing the project, on 10/18/95 He will make plans available. Reorganization of Human Services Steve reported on reorganization plans for creating a new Human Services Department. The reorganization is not expected to affect the Enablement Committee.
