HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-05-27-PBC-min.pdf Inc TOWN OF LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS ` PERMANENT BUILDING COMMITTEE Minutes of Tuesday May 27 2003 meeting at the Lexington High School Trailer as approved June 10, 2003. Permanent Building Committee member Philip Poinelli called the meeting to order at 7.10 p.m. with other PBC members, Bruce Creager, Peter Johnson and Jonathan Himmel present. Also present were Joanne Benton, Superintendent of Schools and the Owner's Representatives, Bill Kealy, Project Manager, and Carl Oldenburg, Project Coordinator. From Gienapp Design Associates Dale Gienapp and John Michaud. Materials distributed: Lexington High School Acoustical Modifications, Project Budget and Draft Schedule for Proposal Architect, Dale Gienapp, explained the scope of the Acoustical Renovation of Lexington High School. He told the PBC that four social studies/English rooms, four science rooms, one art room and Black Box room, one health room, two foreign language rooms, one language lab,two math rooms, the media room adjoining the Library and some adjacent corridor spaces are to be renovated. Gienapp said that by replacing the unit ventilators, windows, doors, installing acoustical material(Tectum)to walls, changing duct work, disconnecting fans, adding carpeting and mounting acoustical ceiling panels where necessary in these spaces, he hopes to reach a DB of 35 He added that electronic assisted listening systems are also to be installed. Northeast Interiors was the low bidder($949,852.00)for the job. Gienapp stated that the Phase I would begin July I, 2003, as this is their first access to the school, and that the interior of the building would be completed by August 22,2003. Interior areas that are not main educational spaces as well as the corridor and roof taps would be finished by October 4, 2003. Gienapp acknowledged that the windows could pose a problem and have to go into Phase 2. Phase 2 has the Shop Drawings ready by July 7, 2003 and the HVAC units by September 1, 2003. P Poinelli questioned whether the windows could make the schedule. In response, Gienapp said that the filed sub-bid, A&A windows has requested permission to begin measuring the windows when school ends tomorrow B. Kealy suggested window installation take place during Christmas vacation. At this point, Poinelli recommended that the windows be removed from liquidated damages. A pre-construction meeting has been scheduled for June 4, 2003 at 11 a.m. Motion was made by P Poinelli to recommend Town Manager.Rick White. sign the contract with Northeast Interiors in the amount of$949.852.00. P John son seconded the motion and all were in favor to recommend that Rick White sign the contract with Northeast Interiors. J. Benton is waiting for approval from Christine Lynch's office to move forward with the Harrington Project. At 8:22 p.m. P Poinelli moved to adjourn the meeting. B.
