CHAIRPERSON'S REMARKS: Clark Cowen called the meeting to order at 4*35 p.m. and
proceeded with the election of officers for 7/1/00 to 6/30/02. Peg Jemison presented the
slate of officers---Chairman: Jackie Davison; Vice-Chairman: Phyllis Rand; Treasurer
Donald Graham; Secretary Anne Kriebel. A motion was made and passed unanimously to
cast one ballot for the entire slate. Clark Cowen gave the Board a copy of his letter of
resignation that had been sent to Rick White and Jeanne Krieger
Jackie Davison chaired the balance of the meeting. The minutes of the May 10 meeting
were accepted as written. Don Graham gave the Financial Report as of April 30. Spending
for the programs is on target with the budgeted amounts. It was noted that Lexington's
Adult Day Care Program is regarded as one of the most fiscally sound in the area. Any
extra money in the budget will be used to build storage for exercise equipment, improved
audio equipment, and new exercise equipment. It was suggested the Lexington Club
might be willing to donate some exercise equipment to the Senior Center The line item,
Selectman Gift, in the Revolving Fund was questioned. It consists of two accounts---
money left from the old Meals on Wheels account and money donated for the Volunteer
Service Corp. It was suggested that the title be changed to better reflect the nature of the
account.
EDUCATION COMMITTEE: Phyllis Rand reported that Post Grad for a Day IV will be held
on Tuesday, Nov 14 with a variety of topics to be included in the program. One principal
speaker and one workshop leader have signed up. The Committee will be meeting this
week to work on further arrangements.
SOCIAL SERVICE DEPARTMENT TRANSITION PLAN. Linda Vine described the plan
that she, Karen Simmons, and Donna Hopper will follow until a new director is in place.
They will use a team approach to look at the present structure, define staff positions, and
examine current concerns. Donna Hopper, who formerly worked in Human Services, will
look at the social service aspect; and Karen Simmons will work with Dianne Snell on the
financial issues.
Linda Vine and Donna Hopper will focus on the process of moving ahead with the new
center This will involve working with the Long Range Planning Committee (LRC) and the
Senior Center Site Committee (SCSC). Some of the issues are the community survey, the
unduplicated count of Senior Center users, and the $50,000 allocated at Town Meeting.
Linda Vine reported on the recruitment process for a new director The deadline for
applications is June 16; many applications have been received and are being reviewed.
On Monday, June 26, the interview process will be held with four panels interviewing five
or six candidates. Four Board members volunteered to serve on the citizen's panel---
Jackie Davison, Dan Fenn, Carol Murphy, and Phyllis Rand. Rick White will make the final
decision.
OTHER BUSINESS: Don Graham reported on the SCSC Rick White has been attending
all meetings, which will continue through the summer on a bi-weekly basis. Visits have
been made to other senior centers---Arlington, Marblehead, Peabody, Danvers, and
Winchester Newton is scheduled for Friday, June 16. Within six weeks, the SCSC will
report to the Board of Selectmen with a process for public input. It was pointed out that the
{ LRC should be prepared to answer questions regarding space and program that the
SCSC will ask. It was decided that the LRC shcould continue to meet through the summer
probably on a bi-weekly basis. Meetings for the LRC have been scheduled for Thurs.,
June 22, 4 p.m. and Wed., June 28, 3 p.m.
Dan Fenn reported on his visit with Robert Mann.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:20 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Phyllis Rand, secretary
