CHAIRPERSON'S REMARKS: Jackie Davison called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m.
and introduced the guests---Charles E Lawrence, Sr., consultant and facilitator from
Scituate; Carolyn Griffith, Director of the Adult Social Day Care Program; and Carole
Cooke, representative from the Waldorf School.
Carolyn Griffith briefly described the Adult Day Care Program and answered questions
relating to it. Carole Cooke spoke about the Waldorf School and the desire to remain in
the present location. Their school board is upset about the possibility of the Town
terminating their lease on the property and buying back the school.
MINUTES: The minutes were approved with one correction---on page two under Muzzey
Trustees Report, it should read "the trustees were in court today", not Peg Jemison.
FINANCIAL REPORT Donald Graham distributed the financial report for the period,
ending Jan. 31,2000. He noted the Transportation Grant of$7,000 received in federal
money passed through the state. This is used to defray Adult Day Care transportation
costs. The report was accepted and placed on file.
EDUCATION COMMITTEE REPORT Anne Kriebel reported on the success of the
Lexington's Living Memories program. They were all well attended and exceeded
expectations. The committee will consider future programs on Lexington's history Plans
for the Annual Women's Day Conference on Wed., March 29 have been finalized;
publicity will be in the Lexington Minuteman next week, and registration is progressing
well.
LONG RANGE PLANNING COMMITTEE REPORT Jackie Davison reported that an
article, presented by the Board of Selectmen, before Town Meeting will include $50,000
for schematic plans for a new senior center Chris Gelling will be talking with an architect
regarding our needs and these plans. The committee is also making a detailed
assessment of the viable sites and a site matrix based on these assessments. The
question of the use of the present facility was discussed. It was suggested that the
Muzzey Trustees be kept informed of the Town's plans for the use of the facility
SCITUATE COA STRATEGIC PLANNING REPORT Charles Lawrence, former
facilitation consultant at Polaroid, discussed strategic planning as it relates to our plans
for a new senior center Topics he covered include how to mobilize the community;
involving the recipients and providers of services, as well as the Board of Selectmen and
Town Meeting; collecting data and demographics; communication with service clubs and
civic organizations. He stressed the importance of reaching the senior community and
including them in the planning. Jackie has a copy of a survey that could be modified and
used to reach the seniors. It might be worthwhile to engage a good facilitator to run an
open forum, and we should use the resources of the State Office of Elder Affairs. We
should stress the long term planning; providing sufficient room to grow
Mr Lawrence was very enthusiastic and well received; he offered to visit again.
The meeting was adjourned at 6 p.m.
Respectfully submitted.
