BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES

Clark Cowen, Chairperson, called the meeting to order at 4 30 p m
Clark said he attended the Firefighters Spaghetti Dinner for se-
niors on March 5th and thanked the firefighters on behalf of the
COA Board
MINUTES OF FEBRUARY, 1995, MEETING
The February minutes were corrected to read 12 Oakland Street as
the address for the Decorator Showcase House
RECREATION COMMITTEE--Phyliss Rand
The following activities will begin again this spring
Strike One--present attendance twelve seniors;
COA Walking Group--several historic walks planned;
Bike Club--supervision from the Recreation Department;
Tennis Club for age group 45 plus through the Recreation Dept
Senior Golf League--Clark Cowen organizer;
Senior Canoe Trip from the Concord boathouse--Recreation Dept
Asian Fitness Program did not go due to cost of program
SENIOR HEALTH MONITOR PROGRAM--Karen Santucci, Social Worker
Karen made the following points regarding the SHMP
Average of 41 clients;
Nursing agency excellent; staff consistency good;
Volunteer social worker is providing support for clients;
The nursing agency provides blood pressure clinics at Supper
Clubs This works well for individuals coming off the SHMP
as former clients can still be followed by the same nurses
Program will be bid again in May
Spending is ahead of last year Will need to allocate an
additional $3,500

Karen described a typical client of the program as being female,
80-plus years, functionally and mentally impaired, multi-user of
services and generally lives alone Jack Fisher stated his concern
that people receive early evaluation for dementia

Upcoming programs
April 5th Death and Dying II The Experiences of Faith
May 10th Conference on the Hidden Cost of Owning your Home
MINUTEMAN HOME CARE--Terry McKenna
Reported on the local White House Conference plans, and the ASAP
legislation After discussion regarding the ASAP legislation, the
Board moved to send a letter of support, drafted by Linda Vine
DIRECTOR'S REPORT
SOCIAL DAY CARE--Distributed letters from MMHC rating the
SDC program as a "1--exceeds expectations"--credits go to
Carolyn and her staff
SENIOR SERVICE CORPS survey and letter will be mailed week
of March 12th
AIR CONDITIONING ARTICLE on Town Meeting warrant to conduct
study on air quality issues within the Center reduced to
$8, 000 Dan Fenn discussed the reasoning behind this re-
duction and how we might proceed in planning for next year
ASSISTED LIVING FACILITY is being proposed by the Grey Nuns
They will be calling various Board members for their views
CONFIDENTIAL STATEMENTS distributed for review to the Board
Intent is to raise awareness of staff and volunteers
FINANCIAL REPORTS--John Curry
The following information was distributed
TOWN OF LEXINGTON FISCAL FY95 EXPENDITURES LEDGER for 7/1/94-
12/31/94 information covers both personal services and the
operating side of the Town budgets
MEALS ON WHEELS FISCAL 1995 REPORT--July-December 94--per meal
cost decreased, therefore program is doing well
SOCIAL DAY CARE FISCAL 1995 REPORT--transportation costs have
increased due to the fourth day of service The Board will
need to decide within the next three months on an increase--a
cost analysis handout was distributed The Board will await
word from Minuteman Home Care to see what amount they will
raise reimbursement for State Home Care clients
Meeting was adjourned at 6 30 p m
