PERMANENT BUILDING COMMITTEE
Minutes of Tuesday March 20 2001 in Lexington High School construction trailer
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Kelly at 10.001,n Attending Walter Pierce PBC
Library Director Carol Mahoney Project Manager Bill Kealy Architect Stephen Hale Tom Arthur
EDC Dan Platcow BBC Structural, Steven Berthelette, Steve Hassell, Gus Misail, Edrman Anthony
Associates.
Chairman Kelly discussed the need to have street worthy drawings before advertising the project.
Two critical areas that were identified at the PBC meeting on March 15th
• There is a gap in the mechanical drawings and the specs
• Structural issues exist.
Tom Arthur discussed his associate's, Mehul Dhruv work on the plans. Mehul is trying to look at the
structural issues and how they are coordinated between all of the disciplines. A major concern of Tom
Arthur is that the plans are complete so that the bid document will not require a large addendum
Chairman Kelly asked the question as to whether or not the structural and architectural were
coordinated on the plans yet?
Dan Paltcow from Boston Builders appreciated Mehul's comments and stated that the only issue is
coordinating the top of the grid line and the top of the foundation walls. An older building requires a
lot of field coordination Dan felt that it was best to leave the dimensions off the drawings forces the
General Contractor to coordinate structural/architectural drawings.
There was a general discussion on whose responsibility is it? If you do not have the dimensions on
the drawings you may open yourself up to liability Was a survey done of the building?
The final decision was that the dimensions should be shown on either the structural or architectural
drawings They must show up on one or the other
Peer review of the structural drawings has begun and is 70-75% complete.
Mechanical discussion — Erdman Anthony has brought in more engineers to complete the drawings
The ductwork throughout the building has doubled The ductwork has a ripple effect with the location
of soffits lighting and sprinklers.
Air openings — the engineers discussed opening up the exterior foundation wall adjacent to the
handicap ramp for air vents. The floor in the mechanical room will have to be depressed and the
footings will have to be supported.
Erdman Anthony will have the drawings completed Friday March 30th
