PERMANENT BUILDING COMMITTEE
Minutes of Tuesday March 77 2001 meets in the Construction Trailer on the high school
grounds, as approved December 13, 2001
The meeting was called to order at 7 10 p.m. by Chairman Kelley with other PBC members
Cannalonga, Johnson, Kennedy, Poinelli and Touart present. Also attending were Director of
School Facilities John Moynihan, Project Manager/Owner's Representative Bill Kealy School
Committee member Michelle Hutnik.

A draft site report is due from TLCR on Monday, April 2.
A pre-Town Meeting ioint meeting with the School Committee will be held on Monday April 2
at 7 p.m. (School Committee to begin at 6:30) in the Farr conference room at the Museum of Our
National Heritage, where Town Meeting will be held.
A pre-bid conference on other elementary schools, advertised on April 4 will be held at 8 a.m.
on April 12. Michelle Hutnik explained that each elementary school in the system will house
500 pupils and at least one system-wide special needs program so that Lexington can take care of
this special school population within the local system, rather than having to pay tuition for
services outside of town.
Future state reimbursements will be about $29 per square foot below the real cost to build,
Poinelli reported from a study he has just completed. The purpose of the forthcoming Monday
night meeting will be to have a dialog on elementary schools.
Tree Committee members John Frey, Nell Walker and Kathy Yates appeared to plead for saving
two white pine trees at the high school. PBC members pointed out that the roadways around the
school entrance would be changed and will necessitate removing trees. Red Maple and Calary
Pear trees are to be planted as replacements. Noted that any trees to be saved must have fences
placed around the branch drip-line to protect against construction activity It was recommended
that the Tree Committee assess the health of the trees that they would ask to be saved.
Division of responsibility for water pine and drainage work between the town and school project
was delineated by report and vote: The town will install a water pipe at the high school across the
courtyard outside the new library The work will be accomplished during spring vacation.
VOTED that the project include dredging and removal of a large willow tree at Diamond to
address a drainage problem.

Proiect Manager's Report told that the Field House work schedule has been advanced and the
auditorium delayed until 2001 due to its unavailability this spring. There will be a meeting
tomorrow morning to work on the need for the ten necessary laboratories while the science
building is being expanded and renovated. Minimizing moving expense is the aim. A new
superintendent has been put on the high school job by Peabody Work at the middle schools is
going well.
Glazing question at Cary Library was answered by Poinelli who recommended to Stephen Hale
that the wood windows be separated from the curtain walls and metal windows to minimize
possible adverse appearance of glass from different suppliers next to each other.
How to write specifications for library roofing materials was discussed and it was agreed the
EPDM would be a"perfectly good roof' while other PVCs may not be good.
Library plans are to be ready for inspection on Wednesday April 11 at 1 p.m. and a pre-bid
conference is scheduled for April 23 at 1 p.m. Sub-bids are due Monday,May 7 at 11 a.m.
General contractors' bids will be due at 11 a.m. on Monday May 14 and the library project is
scheduled for discussion at Town Meeting that night.
Review of library plans funding of$11,500 and $9,500 to pay bills presented for work done by
Tom Arthur and his associate was VOTED
