The meeting was called to order at 7.25 p.m. by PBC Chairman Kelley with other PBC members Creager (also Design Advisory Committee member), Johnson, Oldenburg and Touart present. Also attending were Director of School Facilities Paul McGonagle, Harrington School Principal David Crump, Fiske School principal Paul Foley, Assistant Principal Lisa Williams, TLCR architects Todd Lee and Carol Marsh. Also present were Fiske School constituents Eric Brown, Aaron Clayton and Janet Tiampo. Attending Harrington School constituents included PTA co- President Judy Crocker and Denis Kefallinos. Items distributed included the following: TLCR memo dated 11/25/02 on budget for Harrington School TLCR New Harrington Schedule No. 3 Elevation drawings for both Harrington and Fiske schools were on display for comparison and to show most recent changes of Fiske sketches. Some of the same materials were contemplated, but in different configurations. The Fiske facade was made more quiet," the architects pointed out. Blocks were employed for the base and for a blue band under the roof of the kindergarten wing. Responding to questions about access to the roof, architects noted a wide door leading from a supply room on the second floor, adding that a second roof access could be planned from another side. The architects explained that the curved side walls of the halls would not extend fully to the ceiling but that they were mirrored by curved beams above. The two were intermittently connected by strips of 'Cal Wall' PBC member Creager told that Cal wall has a low energy code rating it has aluminum element that goes through. Concern was also expressed about the durability of this material. Questions arose about how drainage from the flat roof would be planned. Architects responded that internal drains were envisioned but that details are yet to be worked out. Responding to questions about the school windows, architects promised to bring samples to the next meeting. VOTED unanimously that the architects should go ahead with the plans are shown in progress, with no negative comments. Cal wall, they assured, will be investigated for energy code ratings. Fiske School facade that shows less color might incorporate some art, such as a suggested depiction of Dr Fiske. However this did not meet much favor with those attending, who instead suggested changing shows of children s art work indoors. The high peaked main entry came in for criticism, mostly suggesting less elevation, yet some interest. Heating system tour of this morning convinced those attending that heat pumps will work and also achieve required sound level of 35 dba or less. Paul McGonagle raised no objection. Moved and VOTED that the architects go ahead with a heat pump design to be provided, since "as presented that acoustic standards'/limits can be met."
