PERMANENT BUILDING COMMITTEE
Minutes of Wednesday June 21 2000 meeting in G Unit Cafeteria Lexington High School, as
approved January 3, 2001.
The meeting was called to order at 7.37 p.m. by Chairman Kelley with other PBC members Himmel,
Johnson,Poinelli and Touart present. Also attending were Bill Kealy Project Director/Owner's
Representative and Dan Vallee, Assistant Project Director. Others present included Sandy Hart of the
Comptroller's Office,Director of School Building Operation John Moynihan, High School Principal
Philip Lanoue and Philip Lewis of HMFH.
Distributed by Sandy Hart: a list of warrant signing dates (requests for payments to contractors, as
related to PBC meeting) with an account number list attached.
Hiring of the third Clerk-of-the-Works was delayed for committee's response to Gary Kaczmarek's
request for a travel allowance to commute to here from his home in Holden. Committee consensus
was to stand by its previously agreed-upon offer.
Kealv's report on nroiect progress on the high school identified that the art wing rooms, roofs and
parking lots are expected to be ready for full use by the September 2000 opening of school. The
structural steel for the new library wing is erected. According to a recently Construction Directive the
broken drain lines will be repaired and reconnected by September. The gas company is now working
in the building installing the new gas lines for the heating plants. Eastern Construction s trailers are at
the middle schools but are not fully connected to utilities.
A roofing material substitution request by Peabody has been rejected by Kealy, who insisted that the
contractor supply Firestone as in the specifications. PBC nodded approval of this decision.
Colors for the high school were reviewed and changed by Touart in consultation with Lanoue. The
general effect is to quiet down the colors, providing a"backdrop" for the high school learning
activities, rather than the brighter colors first proposed by HMFH. The brightest color will be a
turquoise accent color on some wall panels. Committee VOTED approval of the proposed color
palette board as displayed.
Moving progress was reported by Moynihan, who told that already things are being moved out with
help from 14 student packers since school ended today Contractors will begin work in the area of
tonight's meeting by the 29th of June, and the building is to be turned over to them on Monday, the
26th morning. Lanoue had high praise for the cooperation and assistance of the high school staff, and
Chairman Kelley recommended that the PBC thank them with a letter.
After review of schedules for next month s meetings and the hiring of a secretarial assistant to Kealy,
the meeting adjourned at 8.30 to a work site inspection lasting until 9 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Erna S. Greene, Secretary
