The December 14 meeting was convened at 4:30 p m with Bob Cushman presiding In opening
remarks the Chair asked If there were questions regarding the exchange of letters between
himself and James NIcoloro, president of the Lexington Senior Citizens Club. No comments or
questions were heard.
Bob Cushman then described his meeting with Rick White concerning the implementation of the
Linkage Report recommendations to promote senior citizens health The town will search for a
geriatric physician for the program, The Town Manager is interested in implementing all the
Report's recommendations.
The Chair congratulated Maggie Whitesell on becoming Lexington's Recreation Director
He remarked on COA participation next yearn the patriot's Day Parade Carol Murphy as Mrs
Senior Sweetheart will ride In a float with a senior driver
The November minutes of the Board meeting was approved as submitted.
Linda Vine reviewed the COA finances In place of John Curry
Minuteman Home Care Report. Terry McKenna and Myrtle McKeown gave a review of the MHC
Inc. activities as these affected the Lexington seniors In fiscal 93 there was an output of close to
$495,000 in services to our seniors, The town's F`r'a5 assessment will be $5 853 GOA Boarc
members generally are in agreement that MHC does a fine Job with our seniors,
Diana Grammont gave a comprehensive report on the recent committee meeting on Intergener
ational programs (IG) The committee recommended that Diana spend her twenty hours per
week of work as a facia Calor for Intergerr ationa programs of all kinds The Committee Is
working on a survey of IG interests and c ent a lies going on in the schoo s Il will the^
sorl out these interests and ongoing programs to for 'elate an overall perspective We are also
exploring the likelihood of finding some grant money to help with IG activities.
Director's Report. Linda Vine stated that the seniors' property tax work•off program will
commence next July 1 with a budget of $15 000.

The Supper Club program has averaged 25 persons attending each evening. We will have a
manager to work 3 hours per evening on this program, Each of the middle schools has adopted a
village site for entertainment during the supper hours
The Meals on Wheels program will be brought Inhouse beginning January 3, 1994 Service
America will be the food caterer for MOW
The Parks & Trees department will be repainting the interior of the Senior Center
The distribution of USDA food Items will be moved from the Center to the Food Pantry central
site, The number of persons served has declined from a high of 170 to 60 recently
The Health Fair will take place next January 10 from 10:00 a.m, to 3:00 p.m with staff
personnel from Emerson Hospital, In addition to the standard tests, EKG will be given at this on,
site fair A full exam will take about two hours of lime
The School Superintendent will be a guest speaker at the Center next January and give a review
of the Lexington school budget.
The Christmas Holiday open house drew an attendance of 110 seniors.
The Montessori school children created the snow scene on display at the Center
The Recreation Committee members and direc .or held a brainstorming session with us. A budget
of $5,000 will be devoted to seniors' recreation Items Some of the topics of interest voiced at
the meeting were:
• The recreation clients can be anyone 50 years old and up.
• Tai Chi or yoga.
• Walking exercises.
• A bike group.
• Trips for the 70.75 age group.
• A space inventory for senior recreation, including the villages
• An Outward Bound weekend next spring in a gym perhaps intergenerational.
• A communications newsletter in collaboration with COA and Hayden Recreation Center
• Senior golf, Golf lessons,
• Bridge games and tournament,
• Ballroom dance classes,
• Bowling.
• Square dancing.
• Keeping statistics on senior participation In recreational activities.
• A senior recreation task force Clark Cowen to serve for COA.
The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
