HomeMy WebLinkAbout1993-03-09-COA-min.pdf Council on Aging Board Meeting Minutes March 9, 1993 Attending Harriet Onello (Chairman) , Kevin Grimes, Jim Penske, Ed Grant, Clark Cowen, Bob Cushman, Monica Chang, Linda Vine (Staff) , Donna Hooper (Human Services Liaison) Absent Chen, Rubin and Taylor The meeting was called to order at 4 35 p m The minutes of the prior meeting were approved after discussion of the amount of funding in the warrant for Town Meeting Chairman Onello then welcomed our guests, Bev and Peter Kelley, who are heading up the FCOA auction on April 2nd They reviewed the status of preparations, the need for donations and volunteers, and the work on the brochure which will list all items and donors 500 tickets have been sold and it should be a success Linda then gave the Director' s report ( 1 March 30 at 2 00 is the rescheduled volunteer recognition event including the dedication of the tree to the memory of Jack Eddison 2 320 client satisfaction survey forms were mailed March 2 3 The World War II oral history project has been completed and will be presented the evening of April 6 4 Applications for the Minuteman Cane Award were passed out 5 A copy of the Minuteman Home Care evaluation of the agency passed out with the comment that the COA exceeded expectations 6 The Boy Scouts are helping to renovate a former storage area in the Center into a small conference area 7 We should all allow extra time for the April board meeting Kevin Grimes then reported on the Linkage Committee project A copy of the invitation to participate was given each board member; this was sent to 127 individuals and organizations There have been 37 acceptances and notices of several written submissions from those who can ' t attend Kevin then solicited and obtained volunteers for the day of the hearing Kevin also reminded the COA that we should consider a program ( of education to the elderly on alcoholism It ' s a problem not addressed by the AARP, AA, or the life care communities Two drinks a night with medication can be a problem for the elderly; there is also a danger from driving or falls while impaired The Board agreed to refer this to the Education Committee The meeting adjourned at 5 50 p m L adrmc/80061/92docs/4.8.93
