OOUNCIL ON AQINQ BOARD MEETINO - NOVEMBER_ 10, 1992

Attending: Monica Chang, Bob CusMien, Ed Qrant, Kevin (�rimes,

Eddison, (Selectmen liaison), Uorxia Hooper (liunan
Service liaison), tvan Qslvis (Minority Outreach
Project), Carolyn Qriffith (Social Day Care
Cocx^dinator), Karen Santucci (staff).
Absent: Jim Fenske, Linda Grew Vine
The rr�eting was called to a^der by Kevin c�^^imes. The
minutes were read and accepted unanimously on a motion
by earbara Rubin, seconded 'by Ed Ci^ant.
There was no :firiancial report as Jim Fenske was absent.
Director's Report - Karen Santucci . �
New programs such as the Widow Support Oroup and the �
Chess Club were mentioned. The Friends of the o0A �
Auction will be heid on April 2, 1993. The recent
jewelry sale netted a profit of �620 for the Friends.

Ivan Aalvis reported on the Minority Outreach project.
( The ooA Board men�bers received s written acoount of
actions taken to encourage minority residents to use
WA services and suggested programs that could increasa
tc�irarity participation. OOA brochuras have been
translated into Haitian, Frenc.h Creole, Spanish, and
Chinese and have been circulated in an attempt to
attract different ethnic groups. This project has been . _ _ _ _
funded by a grant fran Minuternan Hana Care.
Social Day Care Program - Carolyn Qriffith
She stated that the individusls involved in the program
at this time are younger and ma^e fragile than those
assisted in the pasb. hbst sre suffering from Alz-
heimer's Disease a^ other mental irtpairments, and there
is much caregiver stress as well . The staff provided
by the COA is serving nearly 50 people per week (having
27 ciients on the roster). hbre residents ara raw
aware that there is a Sociat Day Care program avail-
able. Carolyn ackrwwledged proudly that the program
has been growing dramstically in quanti�y and quality
of service.

Linkages - Kevin Grimes
Long term planning is on-going in the aYeas of
5ociaT Day Care, Minority Outreach and Hwnan
Services.
FJducatian - Barbara Rubin
The proposed Housing Conference has been postponed
i.mtil late spring as it requires extensive
planninq.
The Hispanic Dinner (scheduled for 5:30 Prl,
Wednesday, November 18th) may have to be
postponed based on low nvnber of reservations.
The .Lunch Program has a Thanksgiving meal that day
followed by entertai:urient, therefore there is
concern about the nunber of people willing to
attend the evening event.
Cli�t Satisfactim - Muriel Taylor
Muriel wili meet with Linda Vine to discuss arid
prepare the .final form of a Survey Questionnaire.
Minuteman Hane Care Soard Representatives -
� After a discussion by those present, the following
motion was made by Ed Grant end seconded by Bob
Glashren.
That the two candidates, Theresa L McKenna and Frank
W. Chen (previously interviewed by Linda Vine) be _ . . _ _ _ _
appointed to the Minuteman Har�e Care Board subject to
the decision on the question of conflict of interest in
regard to Ms. McKenna's ertploy►rwxrt at Mediplex of
Lexington.
The motion passed imanirrausly. A third candidate,
Irving Rothman (not yet interviewed) wi,ll be kept in
mind as a naninee for the C7�A or Minute�rian Board.
Ed Grant will be the Chairperson for the December meeting.
