A review of SHINE was given by Charles $oth. SHINE stands
for "serving the health insurance needs of elders" a state program
of volunteers on Medicare, etc. education. Each volunteer has
training and attends monthly meetings to keep current. Each
volunteer gives information, not advice. AARP information and
Consumers Reports are used in addition to program issued
materials . Example: small company' s first retiree didn't know
that younger wife had to be covered by health insurance. Long
billing cycles causea problems for individuals trying to remember
what services were rendered thus they need help on their bills.
Choosing 65 Medigap insurance and lqng term care insurance are
highest priority to thoae counselled,
Muriel Taylor reported on the Client Satisfaction Survey.
The Board reviewed the draft form; suggested range of answers and
copies of other surveys be investigated.
Barbara Rubin reported on the Hispanic Dinner scheduled for
November 18; specific assignments were made:
Barbara also reported on the Housing Conference planning.
'Jackie Davidson and others were in attendance. The forum and
senior needs were the topics . It was decided to use Cary Hall;
adult children of seniors are also targets for attending. "Should
I sell my home or Reverse Mortgage? " are typical discussion items .
The linkage/planning committee report was given by Kevin.
The thrust of the first meeting was to consider a workshop where
all providers could report on needs and programs . Another meeting ',
has been scheduled for 10/21/92 .
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at
