Present : Kevin Orimes , Bob Cushman, Ed Grant , Barbara Rubin , Jim
Fenske, Jack Eddison (Selectmen liaison) , Karen Santucci
and Linda vine (staff ) . •
Absent : Harriet Onella , Muriel Taylor , Monica Chang
Meeting was called to order by Chairperson Kevin Grimes at 4 : 30 p .m.
Remarks : Kevin welcomed new board member , Bob Cushman. Bob
previously served on the Human Service Committee .
Kevin distributed packets on committee asaignments and
asked that a representative of sach group provide an update .
(see attached list' for committee members )
Long-Range Flanning Committee - Kevin explained their goal
will be ta bring the community into the planning process .
Meals on Wheels Commiktee - Linda reported on opening this '
program to bidding , exploring alternatives , marlceting strategies ,
and perhaps increasing the cost .
�- Education Gommittee - Barbara Rubin reviewed upcoming plans for a
Hispanic Dinner and a Housing Conference Part II . To guide the
committee in planning for this '4onference , community
represantatives have been invited to attend a meeting on Friday , `
October 2 at 8 : 00 a .m.

Barbara added that the committee is planning it ' s ethnic dinner
on Wednesday , November 18 from 5 : 00 - 8 ; 00 p .m. The focus of the
event will be celebrating the Spanish heritage . " LaTienda" will
be working with us to ensure a festive evening . Assignments will ;
be given to board members at a later time . `
Client Satisfaction Survey - Tliis group is currently preparing a
tool to determine satisfaction of Senior Center participants and
to determine the need to open the Center for evening hours .
Minutes of the June 9th and June 30th meetings were read and accepted. The
revised by- laws were included with the June 30th minutes .
Financial Report - Jim Fenske
A loss was incurred by the Meals on Wheels Program which need to
be addressed . Although the number of clients has increased,
it may be necessary to increase the cost to offset further
anticipated losses . A motion was made to increase the cost from �
$5 . 00 to 55 . 50 effective January 1993 . The motion was

unanimously passed . Scholarship monies are available to
assist those zn need .

The COA budget for FY 1992 was underspent by $10 , 000+ which
was returned to the town indicating our prudent management .
Senior Health Monitor Program - Karen Santucci (Outreach Social Worker)
There are currently 42 clients which include six new referrals ,
These clients are tracked by Karen for all levels of care and
recommendations are made accordingly . Questions followed Karen ' s
report .
Director ' s Report - Linda Crew Vine
Linda discusses improvement made to the Senior Center by the
Friends of the Council on Aging which totaled 513 , 000 . Among the
project were acoustical ceilings , additional smoke detectors , and
a new collapsible wall in the dining room which allows this room
to be divided into three sections .
Linda plans to meet with Muzzey Trustees to d.iscuss ongoing
problems with residents on parking issues and after hour use of
the Senior Center .
Nurse ' s House Call was awarded the contract for the Senior Health
( Monitor Pragram.
Valet Group Inc , of Lexington was awarded the cleaning bid for a
lQwer rate than the previous contract .
Linda requested camments on the new format of the Newsletter done
on our new computer , Mare graphics will be added to liven it up .
FISH is donating $1 , 000 which we' intend to use in purchasing a
stereo for the dining room.
On October 13 , a new Hanking Program will begin at the Center .
Four Lexington banks will sponsor a mini-educational program with
representatives providinq individualized servioe to assist elders
with checking account issues ( ie , balancing , terminology) ,
At the September 24th Business EXPO at Cary Hall , the Council on
Aging will sponsar a table . The Friends will be seiling food to
raise funds . Thase who can staff the table are requested to be
there anytime from 3-9 PM.
Next board meeting on October 13 , 1992 at 4 : 30 p .m.
