HomeMy WebLinkAbout1988-10-11-COA-min.pdf COUNCIL ON AGING BOARD MEETING MINUTES - OCTOBER 11, 1988 Present Terry Gent, Susan Nordemo, Wendell Benway, Connie Foster, George Doughty, Ruth Butler, Kevin Grimes, Barbara Rubin, Jack Eddison Absent Dorothy Boggia, Ed Grant, Louis Tropeano Staff Present Linda Vine REMARKS - Terry Gent Terry Gent will represent the C O.A Board on October 14th at the Selectmen' s breakfast SECRETARY'S REPORT - Susan Nordemo The Minutes of the September 13, 1988 Board Meeting were accepted as written DIRECTOR'S REPORT - Linda Vine Computer Department - The demographics for 60+ individuals registered with the C O.A have been put into the computer The Newsletter addresses are ready to be printed on labels The information and referral material for the greater Boston area is presently being put into the computer Funds from the Social Day Care Program pay for the senior aide and the computer programmer The Meals on Wheels Program is doing well The Muzzey skylight replacement work starts on Wednesday, October 19th Safety precautions will be taken The Adult Education classes are 90% filled Social Day Care has a caseload of 30 people Terry Gent addressed the issue of when the Senior Center has reached capacity SENIOR HEALTH MONITOR PROGRAM REPORT - Barbara Rubin Areas of the SHM which were discussed criteria for acceptance, priority according to need, cost, the budget, the beginning number of clients - 20 people will be transferred from VNCH with the addition of 30 new people The health prevention component still needs to be done The social component will be addressed through case management A stronger net- working will be developed and a joint assessment will be used MUZZEY TRUSTEE UPDATE - Kevin Grimes Safety procedures have been designed for construction The Muzzey Trustees will meet on October 11th FUTURE PLANS AND SUGGESTIONS FROM C O.A BOARD MEMBERS Wendell Benway - computer programming objectives and priorities; expand SHM Program; plan more trips ana underwrite the cost of transportation Connie Foster - new areas in housing Barbara Rubin - suggests new survey be put in the C O.A Newsletter; C 0 A own its own van George Doughty - more done with Lifeline- determine the need in the community and promote via the SHM Program Ruth Butler - prevention of service duplication; more of a service role from community-at- large; party for families of C O .A members; education Jack Eddison - housing sites to further develop affordable housing Kevin Grimes - update the tape library for housing issues, etc , as a means of education; Alzheimer s Alert Program needs updating and follow-up; caregivers support program needs updating Susan Nordemo - mentorship program; volunteer program; foster grandparent program Barbara Rubin - After the results of the C O.A Newsletter survey are in, a two month period be given to decide which two programs should be taken on The next C O.A.
