HomeMy WebLinkAbout1988-02-09-COA-min.pdf COUNCIL ON AGING BOARD MEETING MINUTES - February 9, 1988 Present Dorothy Boggia, George Doughty, Terry Gent, Wendell Benway, Ed Grant, Barbara Rubin, Susan Nordemo, Kevin Grimes Absent Louis Tropeano, Connie Foster, Ruth Butler Others Present Jack Eddison, Mary Brock Staff Linda Vine, Rose Goralnick Chrm Gent called the meeting to order at 4 30 P M. REMARKS Terry commented on the meeting between the C O.A and Human Services Subcommittees on the Senior Health Monitor Program (S HMP ) A more detailed presentation of that meeting follows later Terry reviewed the results of the February 8th budget hearing before the Board of Selectmen He felt the C 0.A fared well as far as its 1989 request for funds and that it received a great deal of support from the new Town Manager and the Selectmen He distributed to all Board members a copy of his budget report to the Board of Selectmen SECRETARY'S REPORT The January 12, 1988 Board Meeting Minutes were accepted as written DIRECTOR 'S REPORT The Director 's Report by Linda Vine covered the following areas 1) Introduction of Rose Goralnick who is an intern from Middlesex Community College Rose will be assisting Suanne Dillman during Linda's maternity leave 2) The Social Day Care Program audit report, as completed by the D E A , indicated that the Lexington Program is operating well 49 points out of a possible 50 points were received 3) The Meals on Wheels Program is operating well The total number of clients is currently 37 Funds are available to cover all operational costs 4) Review of a letter Linda sent to Eric Michelson, Chairperson of the Muzzey Condo Trustee Association, regarding continuing water problems in the SDC Coordinator 's office 5) Announcement of the Raytheon donation of $865 towards the purchase of tools and equipment for the C O.A Fix It Shop 6) A policy on confidentiality of client information was reviewed The intent of this policy is to share necessary client information among other Social Service agencies 7) A report covering a full year of energy usage at the Senior Center was distributed Linda alerted the C 0 A Board of a potential short fall of funds under the Power & Light line item in the C 0 A 1988 Budget 8) A copy of the January Library Report was distributed A new videotape program is underway at the Center A subcommittee of the library is working on taping and maintaining a collection of videotapes for circulation SENIOR HEALTH MONITOR REPORT Terry Gent distributed an outline of the report dated 2/9/88 to all C 0.A. Board Members In addition, he gave a presentation which outlined and highlighted major aspects of the proposal — At the conclusion of his presentation a written motion was made by Dorothy Boggia and seconded by Wendell Benway The motion, as presented, is attached The motion was passed ALZHEIMER'S ALERT PROGRAM A presentation on this program was given by Kevin Grimes with handouts distributed to all t Board Members Kevin explained that the Alzheimer's Alert Program had begun in two (2) other towns where the C O.A and local police department worked together to register individuals with Alzheimer's disease The C 0 A handles the administrative work, but the files which identify the persons are kept accessible at the police station A motion was made and secfled to pursue the implementation of such a program in the Town of Lexington It was agreed to change the date of the next C 0 A.
