Chr Boggia introduced, and all welcomed, George Doughty, new C O.A Board member Dorothy
reported that 100 to 150 people attended the November 14th Open House at the Senior Cente ;
600 invitations were sent Gladys Scanlon will be leaving for Florida to join her husband
and she thought she should resign as secretary since she will be gone a few months Jack
Gardner suggested that Natalie Johnson be named as secretary Dorothy Boggia said she did
not want to name a nominee who was not present This will be taken up at a later meeting
Motion Minutes be accepted with one correction - should be Steve Baran, not Steve Doran
One addition - Terry Gent will give the report on Think Tanks Made, Seconded, and
Passed
Director's Report Problems with heating Installation of fans not helping with the circu-
lation of heat The lounge area is cold Accoustical problems exist in the dining area,
social day care area, and classrooms If the Council wants the Town to finance this work,
it must be figured into the Town budget before December 29th deadline Someone with
professional knowledge must work out what needs to be done (cost, etc for this year), so
that this can go before commitees, etc and Town Meeting for work to be done next year
Linda presented a FY 88 Budget Request for the C 0.A The Town had asked that this request
be broken down in more detail than has been done in the past Edith Cheever questioned the
Newsletter line item A discussion regarding cost effectiveness, etc ensued It was con-
cluded that the Newsletter was very effective Terry Gent suggested that 16Q a Newsletter
was not a heavy expense for the excellent communication afforded to the Town's Seniors
Should there be a printing contract? Should there be advertising in the Newsletter?
Edith Cheever, MMHC Representative, gave her report on the ten Pal Project sponsored by
AARP and the COA It has been rewarding to both students and seniors Since 1984 220 young
people and seniors have been involved The fourth grade students are an ideal group for this
project There is a Fall, Winter, and Spring schedule with a party at the end of each
session At the party the Pen Pals meet each other Eight (8) classes, five (5) teachers,
and four (4) schools have been involved
Meals on Wheels Report Marilyn Campbell gave a verbal report on her type- ; mg sm""'"e

the MOW Programs in Winchester, Arlington, and Lexington George Doughty reported on a
Stop and Shop program to help raise money He will get the particulars for the next meeting
It could be a source of funding to help needy people in Town to get MOW Linda suggested an
Ad Hoc Committee be formed Ruth Sawyer, who has worked on the MOW Program, will be contacted
and Lou Tropeano agreed to serve on the committee Marilyn stated that 3 needy people art--‘
presently being subsidized, and 12 more people could use subsidization Linda and Wendell
Benway will work with this Ad Hoc Committee
Dorothy Boggia reported on the Fashion Show to be held on Friday, December 5th The Fashion
Show is a fund raiser for MOW A sign up sheet to sell tickets was passed around Tablecloths,
centerpieces, etc are taken care of Models, clothes from Boston Dress Co are all set
Barbara Rubin and Natalie Johnson will be the commentators Tickets to the Fashion Show are
$15
Muzzey Condo Report Ed Grant reported that at the last meeting of the Muzzey Condo Assoc
two (2) trustees were elected Peter DiMatteo and Eric Michaelson Joe O'Leary resigned for
he is the resident manager The other trustees are Jean Gaudet, Susan Hartery, Ed Grant
A discussion on a public telephone at the Muzzey Condo entrance ensued The trustees are
concerned that it may become a gathering place for young people Ed will, again, raise the
issue of the public telephone in the common area of the Muzzey Condo foyer at the next Muzzey
Condo Association meeting If the phone were located inside the Senior Center, the seniors
would not be able to get to the phone upon returning home from a trip since the Center would
be closed There has been better coordination of parking when major events are scheduled at
the Senior Center Linda has provided a calendar of events About one (1) major event occurs
every three (3) months
Bill Sen commented that another example of the effectiveness of the COA Newsletter was
evident when the Friends of the C O.A asked for benches to be donated for outside the
Center entrance via the Newsletter $3,000 was raised for the benches from that one article!
Benches will be provided, as well as a microwave oven and a donation to MOW from these ft'-is
Letters from the Girl Scouts were circulated A Girl Scout Troop joined the Senior Center
Walking Group at the Center on Friday, November 7th The Girl Scouts expressed their
enjoyment in the afternoon activities with the Walking Group to Linda and Jack Gardner
Jack is the Walking Group leader
The C O.A Board picture was taken for the 1986 Annual Town Report
Thanks are in order once again to Jack Eddison for his helpful suggestions regarding the
submission on budgets to the Town, his interest in the MOW Project, and his concern about
the Center's heating and accoustical problems
