HomeMy WebLinkAbout1987-11-10-COA-min.pdf COUNCIL ON AGING BOARD MEETING MINUTES - November 10, 1987 Present Wendell Benway, Dorothy Boggia, Ruth Butler, George Doughty, Connie Foster, Ed Grant, Terry Gent, Barbara Rubin Absent Louis Tropeano Others Present Jack Eddison, Frank Stowell, Sheldon Spector, Mary Brock Staff Linda Vine The meeting was called to order at 4 30 p.m. by Terrence Gent TREASURER'S REPORT After distributing copies of the revised budget for FY89, which reflects an increase for the Senior Citizens' Club, Wendell recommended the following - Request an Annual Report from the Senior Citizens' Club which will include infor- mation on financial expenditures and attendance figures at activities financed by the C 0 A - Provide an opportunity through the C 0 A Newsletter to publicize the Club's activities and trips The Treasurer's Report was accepted as presented Linda was requested to design an appropriate reporting form for the Senior Citizen's Club which they may complete and submit to the C 0.A This form is to be reviewed at the next Board Meeting DIRECTOR'S REPORT Heating - Radiant heat units are expected to be installed in December A temporary plastic frame covering the skylight is in place with more permanent work to be done on it Glass will be installed in the atrium windows in an attempt to cut down on heat loss All this heat renovation work is to be completed in the next few months New Member - Dr Kevin Grimes, who has done extensive volunteer work at the Center, has been appointed to the C O.A Board Book Sale - This fund raising activity, to benefit the C O.A Library, will be held on Saturday, November 14th , from 10.00-4 00 Board Members are urged to volunteer their service: Other - Reports on the Library and Meals on Wheels for the Month of October were distributed HUMAN SERVICE COMMITTEE PRESENTATION Steve Baran, Human Services Coordinator for the Town of Lexington, and Harvey Lowell and Bob Cushman from the Human Services Committee, gave the presentation Following Linda 's introduction, Steve Baran provided background information on the need for the innovative Senior Health Monitor Program This cooperative inter-agency venture is directed toward providing long term care support services for Lexington's frail elderly; a new direction which the C O.A wholeheartedly endorses With the "Graying of America" and DRGs (Diagnostic Related Groups) , there is an urgent need to provide those needing assistance with a coordi- nated level of services through a case management approach Harvey Lowell and Bob Cushman presented the Board with the program's proposed budget for FY89 Concerns were raised regarding revenue sources, the number of clients to be served, administration, the future of the program, and the obtaining of Town Meeting approval Toaddress these issues, Terry Gent will form a subcommittee which will make recommendations for review by the Board at its December meeting The meeting adjourned at 6 15 p.m Respectfully submitted, .- --) lC6 Barbara Rubin, pro tem Secretary
