AGENDA AND DIRECTIONS FOR THE COA BOARD FOR 1987-88
Terry suggested that the Board focus its attention beyond the four (4) walls of the Senior
Center Broaden the focus from purely recreational to more of an outreach focus Perhaps
the Center can act as an advocate for persons who would like to convert their homes or have
someone share them On this issue, Linda Vine has tracked down an organization in Washington,
D C which gives seminars on Accessory Apartment Conversion If there is an interest, the
organization would consider coming to Lexington to give an Accessory Apartment Seminar, perhaps
in October It was suggested that the C 0 A Board host the seminar and Terry outlined what
was involved as far as cost and preliminary arrangements Terry further discussed the possi-
bility of the C 0 A becoming a provider of1perhaps, a package deal whereby persons wishing to
convert their homes to accessory apartments could arrange it through a plan provided by the
C O.A The C O.A might contact local tradespeople, realtors, lenders , etc who would be
willing to participate, so that the networking of the conversion would not rest on the
shoulders of the individual homeowner The conversion process can be a discouraging burden,
which would be greatly facilitated with a network in place
Next year, Terry suggested the C O.A Board focus on two (2) issues 1) looking at housing
issues, and 2) working toward the networking and broadening of programs and services The
C 0 A is an important organization and as it moves into broadening from a recreational fo(
to an additional care and advocacy focus, the C 0 A Board will need to change The Board w. l
have to work harder and it will be subject to more criticism It will have to take an advocates
role as it moves forward The Board has had a fine and fruitful two (2) years at 1475 Mass
Ave , and it is to be commended for its efforts
The meeting adjourned at 5 35 p m
Respectfully submitted,
Mary M Brock
