HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-04-30-TOUR2-min 1 Town of Lexington Tourism Committee Draft Minutes of the Meeting of April 30, 2024 Select Board Meeting Room and via Zoom 3:30 pm PRESENT: Marsha Baker, Margaret Coppe (Chair), Sandhya Iyer, Fred Johnson, Doug Lucente, Melissa Robbins, and Elsie Xu Absent: Kerry Brandin, Gardy Desrouleaux, Marie-Tristan Rago Staff: Sandhya Iyer, Lorraine Welch Margaret called the meeting to order at 3:35pm Economic Development Report Sandhya Iyer. • People counter March: 4,975 • Visitor's Center Sales for March were $15,274 net. • Battle Green Tours Sales March 2024: 3 private tours, 3 charter sales • Liberty Ride Trolley sales March 2024: 5 chartered; regular tours start in May • Spring Initiatives/Plans Interviews for Visitor Center Assistant Manager and Tourism guides underway September Colonial Games Night sponsored by the Historical Society Minutes: Marsha Baker moved, and Elsie Xu seconded acceptance of 01_30_2024 minute s. June 13 will be Parker's Birthday No decision on Memorial Monument Lex See Her 2 Unveiling of statue on May 18, 2024 Dedication on May 18, 2024 Bus Parking Busses observed parking on both side of Green, Mass Ave and Bedford St. Three dedicated bus slots on Meriam St adjacent to the Visitor Center. Parking kiosk in Depot parking lot still needs to be removed. Liberty Ride Select Board has issued a RFI/RFP to extend the contract to 2025. Buying a trolley involves questions of storage, dispatch, employees. Tickets are $40/person. The trolley is not breaking even. Olde Burying Ground Interactive map of graves with print out ability. Will need funding Talk to Monuments and Memorials committee: Linda Dixon Vision for Lexington Spoke to the committee at their last meeting, March 29 meeting. Open to consider more specific questions relating to tourism. Updates and Miscellaneous Center Committee: recent charette report included the desirability of structuring events to draw people in, make Depot Square more flexible in scale of buildings, and favored higher buildings. Lexington Historical Society still searching for new director. The Depot will be closed October-March for renovations. Lafayette event in September Website and email: discussion of donation button on town website and donation collection box at the visitor center. $3000 donated between July 2018 and December 2023. Donation box totaled $700. Marsha Baker moved and Melissa Robbins seconded removing the donation button from the town website and the donation box at the visitor center. Discussion focused on the low amounts raised and the inappropriate look of asking for the donations. 3 The vote was unanimous.
