October 7 , 14, 21, and 28 , 1997
November 4, 1997
HMFH invoice dated October 31 1997 VOTED by the committee to authorize

A meeting on operating procedures was held recently with HMFH, Moynihan
and DeAvignon Information for the committee's December 9 decisions
will get to each committee member by the weekend so that the material
can be reviewed in advance When plans are generated, three will go to
the town, one for DeAvignon one and two to Moynihan and for the record
and the other to be available for inspection for committee members and
other concerned people Special updated floor plans (only) will go to
each Phase I school for feedback
Ascertaining specifics in plans is now in progress For example, no
kitchen equipment is now in the budget Insofar as possible reuse of
present equipment is planned However, the code and the new provider
will be checked before the next PBC meeting Moynihan reported contact
with Boston Gas on feasibility of service to various school buildings
He put them in touch with TMP and they will be meeting with town
representatives in about ten days HMFH also would like to participate
in these discussions Also they have been talking with the town
Engineering/DPW about the location of the sewer line at Diamond
A recent meeting at Diamond with Kelley, DeAvignon and Principal
Hennessey revealed that a staircase has been moved more to the prin-
cipal ' s satisfaction The railing arrangement around the two-story
entrance lobby raised no objections Hennessey expressed concern about
student traffic in and out of double clustered classroom doors along the
new wing hallways The cost per classroom door is about $1200
Committee VOTED that there should be no communication door between
classrooms and to proceed with the classroom doors as planned, as their
proximity would aid in inter-classroom communication and possible
sharing of surveillance
A question about the weight-bearing and flexibility of classroom walls
was raised with clear-span possibility to allow for future non-school
community use of the space, should the school population decrease as it

has in the past Lewis had no data on this issue but said it was easily
obtainable
When the kind of windows planned for the new wing was questioned, Lewis
responded that windows would be of the limited-range push-out variety
with Andenburg arms A tour of schools where this type of window had
been installed was suggested Among those recommended were the Agassiz
School in Lincoln, the Brooks Middle School in Carlisle and a school in
Somerville A tour proposal will be presented at the next meeting
A Diamond elevation drawing was displayed and raised questions about the
depth of the entrance canopy (8 ' ) as well as its cost The main
entrance will be set in from the building facade and therefore will have
a deeper over-cover
A Request for Determination has been submitted to the Conservation
Commission for determination of the extent of wetlands which must be
observed
Phasina plan parameters were discussed briefly with DeAvignon and the
committee
Revised clans for Estabrook (phase II ) were shown The four kindergar-
ten rooms are now lined up and a six-foot wide hall now connects the two
halls down the sides of the new wing, with very little addition to
square footage
Meeting adjourned at 9 40 p m , until Tuesday, December 2 , at 7 p m
Respectfully submitted,
