HomeMy WebLinkAbout1998-10-27-PBC-min.pdf TOWN OF LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS PERMANENT BUILDING COMMITTEE Minutes of Tuesday October 27 1998 meeting with the School Committee in the Selectmen' s Meeting Room, Town Office Building, as approved December 17 , 1998 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Kelley at 7 35 p m with other PBC members Bruckman, Cannalonga, Himmel , Johnson, and Touart present Also attending were Director of School Building Operation John Moynihan; School Committee members Barrie Peltz , Susan Elberger, Fred Rosenberg and Robin DeGiamarino; Capital Expenditures Committee members Charles Hornig and Shirley Stoltz , as well as Dawn McKenna of the TMMA Members of the School Committee distributed advance copies of the town- wide mailing that will go out prior to the November 9 Town Meeting John Moynihan distributed a cost summary sheet from HMFH dated 10/23/98 and Fred Rosenberg distributed a cost analysis sheet he had drafted based upon last year' s format A discussion on how much detail should be publicized and terminologies ensued Recommended that inflation, contingency and "Associated costs" be added after the figures that show the 15 percent cut in construction costs Noted that "swing space" is part of the associated costs Advised that there should be a separate line for contingency, inflation and associated costs The figures in the School Committee mailing are not quite the same in detail ("in flux" it was said) , even though the bottom line is the same Moynihan and others stated that efforts to save the town money continue, even though the cut-off date for data finalization for Town Meeting information was October 5 In any case the top limit is $53 9 million Himmel pointed out that bids will be in a range of prices Kelley emphasized that all proponents of the project should understand this Some concern was expressed about the forthcoming October 31 information meeting Emphasized that all terms and what they mean should be explained in literature If questions on financing costs come up, they should be referred to the Capital Expenditures Committee and John Ryan All in all , it was noted, project costs have been reduced by 10 percent since the 1997 proposal Plans for coverage by PBC personnel at the October 31 meeting (Kelley) and at the Meriam Hill Association meeting (Poinelli ) and for school tours prior to Town Meeting and meetings and school tours prior to the December 7 override vote were reviewed and updated Meeting adjourned at 9 15 p m Respectfully submitted,su Erna S Greene, Secretary
