PERMANENT BUILDING COMMITTEE
Minutes of Wednesday July 8 1998 meetina in Room G-15 Town Office
Building, as approved July 29, 1998
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Kelley at 7 43 p m with
other PBC members Cannalonga, Johnson, Poinelli and Touart present Also
attending were Director of School Building Operation John Moynihan and
School Committee members Martin Long and Robin DiGiamarino, as well as
Ed Natale and Lexington Minuteman reporter Denise Dube
A letter from James L Anderson of the State Department of Education,
dated July 7 , stated that replacement of single glazed window walls
would be required by the Department of Education, "because they are not
energy efficient and do not have a minimum useful life of fifty years as
required by our regulations "
Minutes of Wednesday June 30 1998 were approved as amended
A draft letter to the School Committee Board of Selectmen
Appropriation and Capital Expenditures Ad Hoc School Proiect Committee
and the Citizens of Lexinaton was distributed by Poinelli Editorial

Natale asked if temporary classrooms for high school students during
renovation would be included in the reimbursable project Moynihan
replied that $400 ,000 budgeted in the project for this He also noted
that the technology project is separately funded but also reimbursable
Proaress on middle schools was reported by Moynihan At a Monday
morning meeting with the middle school principals large cuts were not
yet found, but that "creative thinking" is in progress with "everything
on the table" The next middle school meeting will be July 24 with two
members of the School Committee in attendance Moynihan said figures
would be available by mid-August the latest He cited a need for
estimates from HMFH on both the middle schools and the high school
VOTED by the PBC to authorize him to spend up to $2500 for cost
information from HMFH
After agreeing that the final version of the committee's open letter
would be ready Friday for approval of all committee members, whose names
would appear as authors, the meeting adjourned at 9 17 p m until July
22 (with Library plans available for inspection) and 29
