HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997-10-21-PBC-min.pdf TOWN OF LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS PERMANENT BUILDING COMMITTEE Minutes of Tuesday October 21 1997 Meeting in Room 105 , Town Office Building, as approved November 25, 1997 The meeting was called to order at 7 37 p m by Chairman Bruckman with other committee members Johnson, Poinelli and Touart , as well as Director of School Building Operation John Moynihan and project manager Fay DeAvignon present Architect Dorthea Hayes of HMFH also attended Schedule review with Hayes revealed that planning for the high school is on schedule - design development by December 16; however, the planning for Diamond is behind schedule and work on Clarke has stopped, awaiting PBC direction on scope of work for the addition and renovation A full report on costs will be given by Moynihan at next week's meeting so that the committee will be able to plan for design development completion Yet to be charged to the $2 5 million appropriation for the architects ' contract are reimbursables and printing of the reports Middle schools Savings would be $950 , 000 to $1 ,050 ,000 if the trian- gular classrooms were not squared off at Clarke, possibly saving one floor of the addition DECISION Give the School Committee what they want - two 800-pupil middle schools Science labs will also be square Hayes reported about a meeting of yesterday with the Diamond staff regarding rearrangement of the school administration offices to the vicinity of the new (two story) entrance where the school bus drop-off Arrangement of classes will place smaller foreign language classes in the smaller older classrooms between the cafeteria and the auditorium, which will become the center of the arts wing of the school Gym sketches were displayed and questioned due to a possible lack of gender parity This must be addressed in order to meet State Department of Education and community approval , committee members instructed !I Fiske design development will cost about $94,000 , Hayes reported Committee members suggested using some of the money for the high school to cover that amount, but recommended taking this matter up with the School Committee Site work cost of $267 ,000 was cited, and the PBC said they should see the plan before paying for it Bills from HMFH were reviewed cursorily, and it was urged that the Project Manager review and process them, except that Moynihan pointed out that he has ultimate responsibility for all buildings aspects of the school budget Phasing conceptual and preliminary work is being done with Ms DeAvignon and Ms Hennessey Conservation Commission contact will continue with an informal meeting on Thursday night, with possible further meeting to be set up by Randy Sorenson Apparently some CC members have been looking at the sites and questioned the location of some flags It was pointed out that some of the flags might have been moved by school children Following a short briefing on library issues by Poinelli and Johnson, the meeting adjourned at 9 35 p m ,I/ Respectfully submitted, 44/ �p4t4ct_ Secretary
