PERMANENT BUILDING COMMITTEE
Minutes of Thursday July 17 1997 Meeting in Room 111 , Town Office
Building, as approved August 19, 1997
The meeting was called to order at 7 27 p m by Chairman Bruckman with
other committee members Johnson, Poinelli and Touart as well as School
Committee Chairman Peltz and Director of School Building Operation John
Moynihan present Also attending was HMFH representative Dorthia Hayes
Cost estimates continue to concern the committee and John Moynihan
They opined that labor costs were not added to what appeared to be cost
for materials alone
Contract between the town and HMFH has been worked out and should be
ready for signing on Tuesday, July 22 , Moynihan reported
Clarke Middle School plans , further fleshed out were displayed by Ms
Hayes An elevator has been added to the corner of the new three-story
addition The library has been reduced in size to become comparable to
that of Diamond Two computer rooms without walls have been fit inside
Ms Hayes pointed out the rearrangement of classroom walls to make three
classrooms out of every four on the uppermost level of the existing
building She suggested and the committee assented to the addition of
an extra four windows to allow more daylight into some of the class-
rooms
The amount of square footage on the new schematic would add about 800
more than indicated in the Master Plan Its location would require a
tightening of the dropoff turn around at the main entrance Running it
beneath the building was mentioned but discouraged as too expensive
Committee requested a site plan for the new configuration
Diamond addition was APPROVED subject to the site plan
Estabrook estimates were requested by Chairman Bruckman Schematic cost
estimates were requested for the Selectmen' s , next meeting ( less than
two weeks ) PBC recommended going over the figures with the School
Committee Thursday, July 24, prior to presenting anything to the
Selectmen on July 28 It was strongly emphasized that anyone who is
shown the spread sheets should be thoroughly informed that they repres-
ent only the costs to address deferred maintenance
Proiect Manaaer selection interviews were scheduled for 8 30 , 9 30 and
10 30 a m Monday and Friday next week, with a small subcommittee
consisting of Moynihan, Poinelli , Johnson and Bruckman, plus Kelley if
one of those is not available
Meeting adjourned at 8 55 a m until Tuesday, July 22
