HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997-06-12-PBC-min.pdf TOWN OF LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS PERMANENT BUILDING COMMITTEE Notes from Thursday June 12 1997 workina discussion in Room G-15, Town Office Building The meeting began shortly after 7 30 p m with committee members Kelley, Johnson and Poinelli present Poinelli distributed copies of a uniformat project description for design development specifications by system This is capable of serving as basis for design It promotes good understanding of materials This particular document ( for a middle school in Norton) has been done for new construction and covers the entire building and all of its systems Poinelli said he has been in contact with John Miller, who also wants the document, but first the PBC members should see and discuss it After Johnson express concern about the PBC' s responsibility for planning so much in so short a time, the group discussed various aspects of schedule and expectations with some of the following concluded (1) Inventories of existing conditions are valuable but these need to be more specific How much of what? (but Poinelli cautioned about the possibility of a patched look is replacements are partial ) ( 2) Basically the problem is to accommodate growing school population (3) Final package of information on the project must be ready by September 10 (4) Design must be community understandable (5) Basic final work must be done by September 1, then the PBC must make decisions quickly ( 6) A walk through each building is needed (7 ) Analyses of needs of each building must be run through with numbers A project boss could help bring this together (8) For Town Meeting vote design development need not be completed, but design development should be finished in order to go on ( 9) Good communication with HMFH is essential Suggested that the architects appear at the Tuesday night meetings and that the committee meet at an additional time Friday early morning was recommended (10 ) Estabrook may not need as much addition if the entry space and the music room with the concrete risers are reclaimed The entry could become the cafeteria, and the music room leveled and made to accommodate the library (the risers pose an ADA problem if they remain) (11) Elementary schools should be renovated at a cost of no more than $100 to $115 per square foot Respectfully submitted, ?riA —4.4- , Erna S Greene, Secretary
