Meeting date: April 8, 1997 Attendees: Bruce Schweitzer Deborah Zuckerman Nancy Sackman Olga P Guttag Joanne Benton Vivian Burns Barbara Baker Bill Bruckman John Moynihan John Moynihan outlined the project scope and schedule with the key points being an April town meeting vote to fund the first stage of the design, an override to fund the final design/construction/renovation in the fall of 1997, and start of construction sometime after the Spring of 1998. We then talked about specific issues concerning the design of the Fiske School. The specific issues mentioned were: 1. Locating a senior center at one of the elementary schools might be a good idea. This has been done other places with great benefits to the seniors and the elementary students. 2. Current health suite is too small. HMFH plans in the Master Plan appear to fix this. 3 Will Option C (new school)be revisited? There is concern that the elementary schools are becoming too large. John Moynihan pointed out that Option C is significantly more money, but probably more important than this is that a suitable site for a new school does not really exist. 4. Questions arose about the state approval process. John Moynihan explained that there is a review process that allows the state and the town to work together on a plan that meets the state's requirements for reimbursement. 5 Movable walls between classrooms and/or interconnecting doors are wanted. 6. Site plan needs to define main entrance. 7 Office needs visual control of main entrance. 8. Storage furniture should be easily moved to reconfigure classrooms. More storage is needed. 9 Is there any plan to relocate the offices of the elementary specialists from the High School to the elementary schools? John Moynihan responded that the current plan keeps the elementary specialists offices at the High School. 10. Drop-off areas need to be near entrances and should provide covered areas from drop off point to entrance. 11. Lockers too narrow Prefer lockers over cubbies for security and health reasons. It was suggested that there could be storage space for staff use above the lockers. 12. Need stage platform for cafeteria so that gym is not canceled all the time. 13 Need sound proofing in library and cafeteria. 14. Eliminate nooks and crannies as much as possible for security and efficiency 15 Possibly switch kitchen and cafeteria to have more windows in cafeteria.
