HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-PBC-rpt-annual.pdf TO 1996 Town Report FROM Erna S Greene, Secretary 862-0026 PERMANENT BUILDING COMMITTEE The Permanent Building Committee applies strong, continuous oversight in planning as well as construction of all town buildings so that the town will gain full permanent value In 1996 Cary Memorial Library and school projects received considerable committee scrutiny and assistance, particularly in selection of architectural and planning firms While the library project was denied state approval for reimbursement in September with reapplication planned in 1997 , the committee continued to offer experienced judgment to help at critical junctures in planning for schools Throughout the year they worked closely with Director of School Buildings Operations John Moynihan on the ongoing capital projects , such as system-wide upgrading for technology and improvements to Harrington School They chose the firm HMFH to do a thorough study of space utilization in all schools, as a basis for needed major upgrading and expansion to last well into the twenty-first century Longest standing member William Kennedy left the PBC after many years to join the Capital Expenditures Committee, and another long-time member, James Scanlon, moved out of town At year' s end Town Manager appointed Peter Kelley to replace Scanlon and the School Committee appointed Philip Poinelli to replace Kennedy Other Town Manager appointed committee members by are William R Bruckman, Chairman, Theodore M Edson, Peter D Johnson and Daniel McCabe School Committee appointee Mary Lou Touart also represents the Library Trustees, along with other library representative Walter Pierce
