HomeMy WebLinkAbout1995-PBC-rep-annual.pdf January 25, 1996 PERMANENT BUILDING COMMITTEE REPORT FOR 1995 TOWN REPORT PERMANENT BUILDING GETTING READY FOR 2000 PLUS Poised ready to provide technical assistance on the next project to come up, the Permanent Building Committee saw the completion of the new combined dispatch center in the Police Building of the town buildings complex Along with the new communications center came renovated detention cells , booking center and front entrance, including a ramp for wheelchair accessibility Thus some of the most pressing needs of that building were addressed, and safety services dispatching could be consolidated in one facility In addition, Maria Hastings School renovations were completed in 1995, largely thanks to John Moynihan of the School Department, with some PBC assistance and participation Now plans are being formulated for all the other schools in the system to become equally equipped The committee has begun working with Cary Memorial Library staff and committees as they shape a major library renovation Already the committee has contributed its expertise in the selection of architects who are now preparing schematic plans If town meeting and the state give approvals in 1996, the committee will be tackling a major project Permanent Building Committee 1995 Report - Page 2 Also involving committee attention were air quality at Fire Department headquarters and possible adaptations to make all town buildings accessible for everyone William R Bruckman, appointed by Town Manager at the very end of 1994, was elected chairman in late November Other Town Manager appointed PBC members are Theodore M Edson, Peter D Johnson, Daniel L McCabe, and James J Scanlon Also serving on the committee are representatives of schools William P Kennedy and Mary Lou Touart as well as representatives of Cary Library Walter Pierce and Mary Lou Touart Erna S Greene, Secretary 862-0026
