PERMANENT BUILDING COMMITTEE
Minutes of May 19 1993 Meeting in Room G-15 , Town Office Building, as
approved September 22 , 1993
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Kennedy at 8 10 p m with
other committee members Edson, John Kennedy, and Touart present Also
attending were Director of School Building Operation John Moynihan III ,
and Capital Expenditures Committee representative Paul Hamburger
Proposal document for Town Buildings Study by Archetype summarizing
scope of project and price of $37 ,000 has been received The following
buildings are included in the study
Bandstand
Town Office Building
*Police Department
*Westview Cemetery Building
*Animal Shelter
*Central Fire station
East Lexington Fire station
*Visitors ' Center
*Recreation Building at Old Reservoir
Center Field Building
Two storage buildings at Munroe Cemetery
Cary Library
East Lexington Branch Library
Senior Center
*DPW Building
* studies have been done and will be sent Archetype
A comprehensive study will be requested, but Archetype will be asked
only to fill in missing information and not to redo work already done
Maintenance considerations are to be included All of the data is to be
put on a computer system to be updated continuously (by town forces)
Three categories of needed work should be enumerated immediately
needs, near-term needs and long-term needs There should be room in the
computer program for life-cycle data Possibly asbestos data (need for
special asbestos contractor? ) should also be included Understood that
Archetype's quotations of $37 ,000 and $93 , 000 for town and schools
buildings study would included diagnostics , engineering and asbestos
studies Approval of both proposals VOTED List of buildings has been
agreed upon
Timetable Work on schools will begin in June Peter Chalpin will be
contacted about schedule for work in town buildings
Other PBC involvement will include work on consolidation of
communications functions Jim Scanlon will work with the police
Field House Roof Trial date has been postponed until October 18 , 1993
Hastings School Opening Renovation plan proposals - 14 of them - have
been received Appropriation of $208 ,000 was approved by 1993 Town
PBC Minutes 5/19/93 - Page 2
Meeting Together with collected rental money and money saved from
statement reimbursements, a total of $750 ,000 has been assembled for the
project
Among the Architects under consideration are DRA and Rosenfeld
Interviews will be conducted with several (possibly five) by three
committee members Ted Edson, Chairman Kennedy and Mary Lou Touart
John Kennedy may join the effort if he is available Project must begin
soon to take advantage of state funding
Current capital proiects are elevator construction at the High School
and Diamond Middle School Contractor Smith Groves is paying
subcontractors direct The elevator subcontractor is Beckwith
Meeting adjourned at 9 15 p m until June 16 at 8 p m
