HomeMy WebLinkAbout1992-06-30-PBC-min.pdf TOWN OF LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS PERMANENT BUILDING COMMITTEE Minutes of June 30 1992 Meeting in Room 105 , Town Office Building, as approved October 27 , 1992 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Kennedy at 7 45 p m with other committee members Johnson, McCabe and John Kennedy plus staff John Mohnihan present for school matters and fire projects member Bergeron also present J P Construction Co Claims activity is proceding Brian Rowlands is in on the loop J P has sent packages of materials on the various jobs he has done Diamond heating system contractor Soloco was supposed to come in to fix the faulty valves but he has not , according to Moynihan There is about $6, 000 worth of problems with the Diamond library heating due to the incorrect installation Schools - Progress on current projects and planning for next major program Moynihan reported that the Superintendent has signed the contract for roofs of the Science and DEF units buildings at the_high school at cost of $115 ,000 and the School Committee has awarded a $568 ,000 contract to Smith Grove for asbestos removal and work on Diamond laboratories as well as elevators at the high school and Diamond Plan and estimate are needed for the next Town Meeting for work on the nine schools (12 buildings) Money may be needed for this survey This phase may have to await a town meeting appropriation The schools section of the meeting ended at 8 10 p m Fire Department Planning Chairman Kennedy stated that he would like to focus on the Central Fire Station Town Manager says the committee should do this plus think about which safety functions could be combined for efficiency with the Police Department Opinions expressed favor for a technical/factual/analytical and cost-estimating role for the PBC, letting the political process deal with needed action Chief Bergeron agreed to add up his needs and then go to the the Police Department to discuss matters related to phasing in the 911 service Noted that the MAPC and the Town of Acton are now working on regional aspects of emergency services and communications Members Kennedy and Kennedy will work with the Fire Department in their planning so that a proposal for architectural services , conceptual plans and ballpark figures can be ready for next Town Meeting Minutes of April 21 1992 committee meeting, Fire Department Section ( last paragraph page 1 and page 2 , with date on heading corrected) were approved The meeting adjourned at 9 10 p m until Wednesday, September 16 , 1992 at 7 30 p m Respectfully submitted, Lam`- 4/ .-� rk,e�- - Secretary
