HomeMy WebLinkAbout1991-01-22-PBC-min.pdf TOWN OF LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS PERMANENT BUILDING COMMITTEE Minutes of January 22 1991 committee meeting in Room G-15, Town Office Building, as approved February 12, 1991 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Kennedy at 7 47 p m with all committee members present except for David Smith Also attending were staff Manny Coscia and John Moynihan (for first half hour) Minutes of August 22 1990 were approved with two amendments Notes from November 14 were checked for accuracy and deemed 0 K Report from the Committee for the 1990 Town Report will be amended to omit mention of wheel chair lift and schools ' takeover of improvements A sentence noting the amount of School Building Assistance reimbursement of $7 2 million will be substituted Field House Roof project yeilded five bids priced from 58, 250 to 83, 500 Lowest bidder Rockwell won the job and his contract is now being written Money is to come from town funds not PBC ' s Town Manager has proposed to have a young person from Engineering inspect the job, but committee agreed it would be unwise to risk getting another poor job due to inadequate supervision and inspection Noted that a Sarnafil representative is available for the work involving that material Edson urged that Simpson and Gumpertz be engaged for about $500 per week to oversee the work Another possibility would be to hire a well qualified retired or unemployed person recommended by Adler Removal of Wheel Chair Lift (which does not currently work) is now needed Two proposals have been received - complete removal for $2, 800 or removal of all but the rails for $1, 900 Manny Coscia said he could arrange for complete removal for less Although Manny is now officially retired, he agreed to be around for reference on this and other final touches of the school renovation project Punch List Progress has been made by J P Construction, Manny reported Fiske is done except for a few electric light fixtures At Diamond the job is progressing; however, the grills over the windows are leaking It is not yet known how far J P will carry his various contentions Committee' s future role in five-year planning involving possible relocations for safety and school administration functions has been suggested by Town Manager However, neither he nor any other spokespeople for this possible project was present In the meantime, the Chairman has received a letter from the absent committee member offering his resignation Chairman and all present expressed preference for keeping David Smith as a committee member, since the committee ' s responsibilities in the coming year are uncertain The meeting adjourned at 8 35 p m until Tuesday, February 12 , 1991 at 7 30 p m %/, Respectfully submitted, �� ✓d �f�`.e41z.Secretary to Committee
