HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-11-14-PBC-min.pdf TOWN OF LEXINGTON MASSACHUSETTS PERMANENT BUILDING COMMITTEE NOTES from meeting_ of November 14 , 1990 Meeting to order at 8 10 p m with Chairman Kennedy and members Scanlon and Edson attending as well as consultant Rowlands No quorum was present (Accuracy 0 K 1/22/91) Copies of the Local Building Code Board of Appeals decision were passed around Noted that the committee has 45 days from October 23 to appeal the decision A consensus of those present Let it rest and followup action take its course The School Committee plans to request an appropriation of $100 000 for building an elevator Fiske libraryroof is apparently leaking There have been problems between contractor J P Construction and the roofer and conflicting reports are involved Rowlands and Clerk-of-the-Works Coscia are looking into it A Seminar on Municipal Records and the Open Meeting Law was announced for December 5 from 9 to 12 noon Annual Report_ of Committee 's 1990 Activities was corrected and revised by those present It will be submitted to the Town Report Committee as amended Field House Roof specifications have been drafted by Adler of Simpson Gumpertz and will be checked by Palmer and Dodge Morello did not show up at a recent meeting arranged with him The product requested is Sarnafill or equivalent On the original job Sucaflex was substituted because Morello was not qualified to install Sarnafill l The roof rebuilding will be publicly bid Brian Rowlands will use the original spec in working out some aspects of the process Current estimate is $65 , 000 but bids are likely to come in as low as $50 000 At present Adler ' s estimate of his engineer s fee is $7 , 000 The new specifications will bring the roof up to code i e insulation is to be put under the specified PVC Specs for the hip flashing will include lead It was speculated that Morello may be able to use Sarnafill for just this job Chairman Kennedy will consult with Town Manager to set up the bidding period which will probably be two to three weeks Bids will be handled through Town Manager' s office and not involve the committee High_ School Fire Alarms are being checked by John Moynihan Amtek says that the old alarms and not those installed by them are the ones reacting adversely to humidity To close with J P a meeting has been scheduled for next week Mostly subcontractors are involved It will be recommended either they perform the work or accept a settlement Noted that the next meeting may be to approve final payments Meeting ended at 8 50 p m Respectfully submitted J 4� Secretary to the committee
