HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-01-09-PBC-min.pdf TOWN OF LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS PERMANENT BUILDING COMMITTEE Minutes of January 9 1990 committee meeting in Room G-1 , Town Office Building, as approved May 17 , 1990 The meeting was called to order by Chairman Kennedy at about 7 50 p m , with other committee members Edson, John Kennedy and Touart present Staff Moynihan and Coscia and consultant Rowlands also attended Annroval of December committee meeting minutes was postponed until the next meeting (in March) School Department ' s List of Dissatisfactions with the renovation project was submitted to the committee on January 5 Clerk of the Works noted that most items on the list were already on the punch list, now being I addressed Moynihan asked for a copy of that list The fire alarm completion (addition of audible signals) will be done Field House roof agreement that was verbally achieved has been drafted by Craig Stewart of Palmer & Dodge and sent to Morello and Briggs for signature Terms of the verbal agreement were for about $14, 000 Relationship with J P Construction has progressed to his filing suits with subcontractors , especially the electrician J P ' s recent letter to the town, referring to "claims" will be answered by Chartwell after checking with Town Counsel Chartwell ' s proposal for additional work in connection with ensuing legal followups and applications to SBAB will be forthcoming Seaman Bratko punch list containing about three days worth of work ($20 to $30 thousand) The original punch list had been lost, but another was prepared This contractor ' s work was praised A detailed final report to Town Meeting was requested by committee member Touart and others agreed it should be done Approval of accounts payments as submitted by Chartwell VOTED The meeting adjourned to the School Committee meeting in the Selectmen' s Meeting Room at 8 30 p m , but school renovation matters did not come up until 8 45 p m here summarized The punch list and agreed upon field house roof fixing and improvement (that does not include insulation, not in the original job) were noted The committee is now reviewing design vs code for the wheelchair lift and will seek a variance, if needed, for non-use of the stair as an emergency egress The lift is presently functioning Commenting on the schools ' list of dissatisfactions the committee stated that about $40 , 000 remains for work to be done 1 PBC Minutes 1/9/90 During renovations work saturated insulation beneath the existing roof at Fiske was discovered; this was cited as an example of needs for improvement uncovered during the last three years Acting Principal of Diamond Middle School Joanne Hennessy thanked the committee for readying the new library in time for dedication prior to the death of Principal Eugene Sullivan (who was too ill to attend the ceremony) Following the appearance before the School Committee the PBC committee agreed to omit a February meeting The next meeting will be Thursday, March 9 , at 7 30 p m in Room G-1 , Town Office Building Respectfully submitted, Erna S Greene Secretary to the Committee 2 f
