HomeMy WebLinkAbout1988-10-20-PBC-min.pdf TOWN OF LEXINGTON, MASSACHUSETTS PERMANENT BUILDING COMMITTEE Minutes of October 20 1988 committee meeting in Room G-15 , Town Office Building, as approved January 12 , 1989 The meeting (that had been postponed from October 13 , the previous Thursday) began about 7 45 p m Quorum for Cary Library business , scheduled first, was attained at 7 58 The following were present for the library only Ann Wallace, committee member for the library and director Bob Hilton RE Cary Library VOTED to approve payment requisition for $15,025 , mostly for cabinet work done but not yet installed Present for school renovation matters for all or part of the meeting were the following committee members William Kennedy (presiding) , Edson, Johnson, John Kennedy and Scanlon School staff Anthony Capezza, Acting Assistant Principal , LHS Michael Waring, Principal LHS Paul Lombard, Acting Principal Bowman School Ellen DeFantis , Principal Fiske School David Horton, Principal Estabrook School Paul Foley, Principal Harrington School William Terris , Principal Bridge School Eugene Sullivan, Principal Diamond Jr High John Hibbard, Principal Clarke Jr High School James Maclnnes , Assistant Superintendent Town staff Manny Coscia, Clerk-of-the-works TAMS Architects Ron Axelrod, Barbara Manford, Jackie MacNicholas , Chris Iwerks , and engineers from Amtech Lou Picciuolo and Marek Orzechowski List of items not yet done or still needed reviewed with each principal and the architects and engineers Estabrook library and computer room completion has been delayed due to a finding a beam larger than expected This caused revisions in plans for ductwork, etc Engineers , answering complaints about lack of heat in the new tutorial rooms , noted that extra heat should be added because f the rooms are at the end of the heating line Harrington library millwork has been delayed until early December The gym is now being used to store library furniture and this is upsetting In addition, materials are piled up in the cafeteria and outside the building, and the Fire Department is unhappy about that Elevator delivery is also delayed Clarke new clocks have been ordered, but delivery will take four to five weeks Existing old clocks do not work with the new clocks The air quality problem may go on the extra priority list PBC Minutes 10/20/88 - p 2 Diamond principal complained that the new doors are very stiff and that the "Portal" brand anodyzed aluminum is discolored Response New closers are needed as the specs call for adjustable closers that were not supplied Closers are to be replaced at contractor's expense Lombard further commented that doors need to be handicap-accessible Auditorium dimmers (on the previous contract) are still awaited High School shortcomings were listed in a handout P A system and insulation of field house roof were emphasized An executive session was VOTED unanimously by roll call vote at 9 50 to discuss sensitive negotiations regarding the field house roof and payment of architects Open session meeting resumed at 10 28 p m APPROVAL VOTED to spend $11 ,000 for the P A system at Diamond A $12 ,000 callback at the high school should be decided before the contractors leave, it was noted an estimate of $10 ,000 has been received by school personnel to install new air conditioner with roof venting for the high school offices Committee will add it to pool of additional work to be considered if funds remain VOTED $5 ,000 additional allowance to J P Construction Co for HVAC and miscellaneous metals at Fiske and Diamond Meeting adjourned at 10 35 p m Respectfully submitted, A Erna S Greene, Secretary to the committee
