PERMANENT BUILDING COMMITTEE
Minutes of special committee meeting of October 13 1987 in Room
111, Town Office Building, as approved November 12, 1987
The meeting was called to order at 6 30 p m. by Chairman Kennedy,
with other committee members Edson, J Kennedy and Touart
present as well as architects Manford and MacNicholas and staff
Maclnnes and Coscia.
Distributed by the architects were compiled lists of all
alternates and cuts as well as a two-page list of recommendations
for budget reallocation in the final construction package Among
the items especially mentioned were the new basketball floor,
additional outlets at several schools and rear doors for Diamond;
the largest cut item was the storage room not to be built onto
the High School (Bill Kennedy pointed out that this decision
had long since been made However, it is understood that the use
of power mechanics shop for the custodians storage had not been
entirely accepted by some of the school staff )
Among omissions recommended to be brought back are some paving at
all schools especially Estabrook
Outlets decided not to add any unless they are grounded All
those within six feet of plumbing should be ground-fault
Estabrook floor urinals must be removed, as they no longer meet
code
Fiske doors and exteriors are desperately in need of renovation.
Brickwork must be repainted, especially above each lintel over
each window
Clarke. Repairs to folding walls are very expensive and have been
omitted
High School shop dust collection system must be expanded Also
additional electrical work may have to be done
Bridoe/Bowman receptacles have been omitted It has been
impossible to date to get a repairman for the folding classroom
walls. Replacement would be expensive ($38,000 to $40,000)
Repair of the folding walls is in the contract
VOTED - to leave the Fiske library at 2400 square feet (the smaller
version) ;
- for use of space in the power shop for the custodians'
storage;

$300,000, reducing the design contingency to $117 000
Also VOTED to add recommended possible alternates a) rear doors
at Diamond; b) classroom painting at Fiske; c) exterior doors at
Fiske and d) security lights at Estabrook and Diamond (see
architects recommended list) These will be added to the

Bridoe and Bowman Gyms have become considerably noisier due to
recent painting Tectem walls with wood strips would cost about
$14 000 for each gym. Committee VOTED that k.LG hire an accoustic
consultant at a cost not to exceed $2,000
Replacement of Lexan windows at Diamond has prooved more time-
consuming work than anticipated because an excess of putty was
discovered Also condition of screws and fitting is poor. The
contractor is asking $5,000 extra for the putty removal work and
a total of $9,000
The meeting adjourned at approximately 7 55 p m. until Thursday,
